Me too. If they do get these in stores for $30, I'd say they'll sell like crack.

You didn't see this in stores?

It's really ugly, and it even used the crappy 7800 or 5200 style joystick. Whateva.

...will feature Pong as well as 40 other classic games including Asteroids(R), Centipede(R), Millipede(R), Lunar Lander(TM), Breakout(R), Missile Command(R), Combat(TM) as well as retro game and arcade classics that have never before been released for the home console...Unlike other nostalgia gaming products on the market, the Atari Flashback is the real McCoy and the games included are originals, not third-party ports," said Curt Vendel, president of the Atari Historical Society.

But can I plug my old cart into it?  That would seal the deal.

No, but Curt has confirmed over at Atari Age that there will be a footprint on the board where a man with a soldering iron and a dream can easily add a cart port.

Gamespot has an article on the Flashback 2.0 here:
http://hardware.gamespot.com/Story-ST-17261-1921-x-x-x

It doesn't mention if it will have a functional cartridge slot (though probably not). It does say that it will be 'mod friendly', so you can add your own.

Quote
As an added benefit to game-modifying enthusiasts, the system will be mod-friendly, with extra room and a solder board included on the control chip. This means that those who choose to void their warranty can modify the system to play original Atari 2600 titles. You will be able to override the on-board system and reuse older games by soldering a connecter onto the control board.. The ability to modify the system to take game ROMs (which is only moderately difficult) from your favorite Atari game, say Pitfall II, into a newer TV system without worrying about finding replacement parts or paying the exorbitant costs of acquiring classic hardware in what is now becoming a very popular classic gaming market, means that you will easily be able to endlessly chase golden mailboxes to your heart's content. Atari is simultaneously targeting the retro craze and the younger generation with the Flashback 2.0.

No it will not have a cart slot on the board, but as I said in my last post, there will be footprint where one can be easily added.

Atari will use the original gameports to allow backward compatibility, so all old controllers will work, as will the new joysticks with older 2600 models. Atari will also include two hidden games that require the use of paddle controllers that were popular in their day. However, these paddles will not be remanufactured, so it will be up to the consumer to acquire them.

very nice..............

That's awesome.  I see the v1.0 all the time, and thought of buying it but always said I didn't like the look of it.  If it was just to play the games, I could do that on my PC no problems, but I wanted to feel like I was playing my old 2600.

I'll def be buying this when it comes out... maybe two so I can try my hand at modding it.

I seem to recall the games having really bad graphics and low re-playability.  Do they really think a kid is going to put down his ps2 for these games?  other than a nostalgia thing, i can't see this getting into a new market.  Neat but I think I'll stick to my rose-colored memories on how uber those games were rather than be confronted by the real thing.
its better to not post and be thought a fool, then to whip out your keyboard and remove all doubt...

I've got about 250 vcs carts within easy reach of the system that I leave hooked up to a woodgrain TV in my game room. I'm "confronted by the real thing" every day. Guess I never took off my rose colored glasses.

They had a demo unit set up at OVGE. It was pretty neat, but didn't have all of the games on it yet. I'm pretty sure it was set for an October or maybe November release.
