New Tempest "module" w/ Vortex spinner
« on: July 21, 2005, 04:50:07 pm »
Usually I don't post pics for every update or new module but I am so impressed w/ how the Vortex feels I just had to.

After playing w/ the sensitivity it plays *extremely* close to the original.  The only thing missing is the bzzzzzzzzzzz when I spin the spinner.  :)

I may look into getting the original knob (if it can be used), the metal one feels a little different.  Maybe I just need to get used to it.  IIRC the original is plastic.

There's a guy selling repro ones on ebay.  They're only 9.99, and match the originals.  The funny thing is that they aren't smooth and glossy because they haven't been used for 20+ years.  They have a mat finish that should turn smooth after use.

I bought one for my spare Tempest panel, and it fit right on.  The only other difference is that there is just one set screw that holds it to the spinner shaft where the original has two.

For 9.99 you pretty much can't go wrong.

Thanks for the tip, I just picked one up a few days ago.
