So laminate is very tricky to work with?
I wouldn't say it's tricky, but until tonight I never owned a router, so flush-trimming involved bribing friends with beer. When it comes to painting the cab, there's not as much work to do involving powertools.

Then again, for a NICE paint job you'd probably want to find a friend with an air-compressor and paint nozzle.

In the end, it comes down to what you like best, and how much time and money you're willing to invest into the cab. The laminate I bought was counter-top grade, sells for $45 (Canadian) per sheet at Home Depot, and I'm about to crack open my 3rd sheet.
