More on the Xgaming Arcade machine...

I'm sorry to see the previous thread erupt into a flame war, so to speak, and be locked.  I certainly don't want to fan the flames, but there can be more to dicuss on this topic if it is done in a civilized manner.  I mean, we all helped convice Act-Labs to consider a TV compatible gun, perhaps we can also help Xgaming by pointing out the good and the bad?

Put the price aside for a minute.  Sure for you and I, a $1000 for the XBS (X-arcade Book Shelf, thanx PJ!!) may seem unreasonable, but for a lot of people this is chump change.  I can easily see many people dropping this amount of coin for a product such as this.  And by

great design..if i were to suggest anything here..then i would say your first design looks decent.

the one look like show case cabinet.(the one comes in several pieces)

That design is cool for $1000 and it can easyly be done(mass produced) and make it like you have to put it together.

we could email x-arcade(I dont have any profit on this but if they really wanna sell a lot of units then they need to change the design).

also,stick to the price tag $1000. :)

If they at least threw in a 27'' tv ( dirt cheap now a days) especially since they'd be buying them in bulk they'd  be even cheaper. Hell even a 25" would satisfy most of THEY'RE targeted audience. I'm sure the average buyer wouldn't know the difference as they don't go to arcades and pizzaria's with a tape measure like some of us do ;D. I'm sure some people will surely buy these but because of the steep price tag I'm sure that some will definately walk away too. Consumers now a days are generally not stupid. At least not the adults (which is who will be paying for the majority of these cabinets not the children.) Most are much more conscious about what they are getting for their money and I'm willing to bet that the ones who really look at this product twice might just realize that a fancy bookcase with no monitor/tv no built in games, no computer or console to drive it is just not worth the money that they are asking for it. This is not written in stone and is only my personal opinion so please don't blow up in my face and start knocking on other peoples projects. Companies NEED a healthy dose of applause AND criticism. It keeps them on their toes. If nobody speaks up then they would just continue to shove inferior products down our throats. I know I know if I don't like it then don't buy it right? I'm sure some people will say that but you won't here that from a company who is trying to sell their products to the public. Why do you think they take polls and send out surveys sometimes. They WANT to know what we think of their products. It helps them make improvements and as a result sell more product.

Just to reiterate from the other thread: I personally have nothing against the design, it looks nice to me, but there is obviously a design flaw with the flipper buttons on the side.  Don't pretend that it's an arcade machine, when it's really an arcade-shaped bookshelf, and doesn't merit the high pricetag IMHO.  Look at similar products (like the ones at the link above) which are more reasonably priced for what they are.  Hey, it's a free market, get what you can for it, but it's kinda outrageous.  At least there ARE alternatives if you can't justify $1000 on an arcade-shaped mini entertainment center.

Personally, I like Oscar's idea.  I would probably rip it off if I had any capital to start manufacturing something on my own...  ;D

End of spiel.

It's been done:
http://www.tlcind.com/homeseries/products.html

It has not been done.  I have seen similar on E-bay.  Seems like it had a 27" or 33" monitor in a showcase cab for $1700 or $2500, but it's gone now and I didn't save any of the links.  But this would not allow you to remove your X-Arcade controller and take it with you like OSCAR's design.

Out of curiosity, which TLC industries product did you think was the same as OSCAR's idea?  They sell the arcade classic for $3,000, which is similar to OSCAR's pic  of Lusi'D's cab above, but without a removable control panel.  Then there's the arcade station for $289 and the arcade center for $189 (basically, the station without the wood over the top of the TV or the chair).  Neither of these allow you to remove your game controller and take it with you like OSCAR's design would.

Personally, I'm not looking at building an arcade machine at all (though I do want a desktop controller), but if I were, I would prefer something like OSCAR has laid out to any of the current offerings.

Does it really matter how much the thing costs?  I mean, if anyone REALLY likes it, they'll buy it.

Let's be honest almost no-one here will buy it because we all want authentic arcade - this thing is obviously more aimed at multi-console use.

My personal view is that the controller does look out of place - they should have re-designed the controller (to be bigger maybe), or made the overall size surrounding the controller smaller.  I think it will probably still appeal to some people...

I would certainly rather buy 1UP's cab than this  :P  (Don't think it's gonna happen tho...)   :D

Why did they take such a sweet idea and ruin it? Players 3 and 4 should by symmetrical. They were so close and then fell flat.

Yeah that is almost how my cab is gonna look when it is finished ;D!!! Also I was planning on buying one of these cabs from my local arcade parts supplier and he said that he would charge $250!!! The thing was gutted of course but came with the CP layout drilled, was painted, had lexan, the whole package. So in my OPINION I think this is kind of a high price. Thanx.

Yeah the price is at least $2000 high, IMHO.  I just thought the concept was cool.

$250 doesn't seem bad for a gutted cab that big depending on what other goodies were included. Did it have a coin door? monitor glass? All the details add up in a hurry.
