MAME on Linux

I just got my PC running Ubuntu Linux. Is there a MAME build that I can use for this?

You can find all that kind of stuff on this site, if you don't already know.

I just got my PC running Ubuntu Linux. Is there a MAME build that I can use for this?

From a command line:

apt-get update
apt-get install xmame
apt-get install gxmame

Installing programs on Debian-based distros like Ubuntu is easier than falling off a log. :)

Could be a couple of things.

First did you get any errors about either the xserver or the GUI, or did it just load to the command line?

if it loaded to the CLI trying running startX or change the run level to init5.

check out the ubuntu forums at http://www.ubuntuforums.org that would be the best place to get answers for these questons.

Ubuntu is a good distro enjoy/

I just noticed when booting that it said it coldn't start something having to do with the "Xserver", but I still get a command prompt. The disc I used is straight from ubuntu, not from an ISO

The error you are giving us is not detailed enough.

Search through the contents of the /var/log/Xorg.0.log file and post the relavent bits that reavel what is broken.

There's a good chance your video driver is not recognised.  What hardware (CPU, chipset, video card) are you using with this system?

nevermind on the first problem. I got into the GUI. New problem occured. When I entered the GUI, my monitor went crazy. it almost looked like the vertical hold was off. Then my monitor flashed "INVALID SCAN FREQ.". I checked the monitor on another PC and it works fine. The computer's video is also fine, as it is normal when I see the IBM splashscreen. It is an IBM 300GL, 300MHz Pentium II, Intel chipset, and Cirrus Logic onboard video 546X
