mamewah roms folder
« on: June 30, 2005, 06:45:18 pm »
Hi
can anyone help please,i have mame 32 running on another comp and all is ok.
I want to run mamewah on a cab i am building i have tried all ways and read everything (well almost) cant find anymore to read.
Must be me but i have no roms folder in mamewah and dont know if i should have or is it a bad d/load.
I have to start mamewah from desktop shortcut till i figuire it out
and it says no games found ,i made a folder called roms as in mame 32 and put 3 roms in but it didnt find them.
Does mamewah run on its own or do you have to have mame 32 installed and mamewah as well to run the front end.

Just getting all mixed up d/loaded so many and still trying,i did as readup said and loaded setup.bat i think it was that and then ran mamewah.
must have been ok just no games found.

any help appreciated thanks Peter

I use mame 0.97 (command line driven) and mamewah.
Mamewah isnt an emulator its a frontend. so you need to configure it to point to whatever emulator you want to use (mame 0.97 is the newest ). Open up mamewah press two(2) to bring up your menu scroll down to list opts hit one(1) then down to generate list and hit one(1) to execute.

This worked for me but if you have any more questions go here:

Good luck. Mamewah is great when you get it working.

Hi xd
thanks for the link.
I printed it out and followed it to the letter,i have been all weekend trying (i have deleted mame 2 or 3 times but when i start mamewah as you and the link says.

It starts mamewah ok,so thats ok but when i click to generate games list it it doesnt find any games and thats all i have put 10 roms in what work with mame32 on other comp.

Now at a loss will try again tomorrow but i dont want to take mamewah off ,i was gonna try emuloader in case i have a bad d/load of mamewah, but i will give it another go.

And thanks for helping cheers mate.

Want to  get it going while i am waiting to buy a router and circular saw got all wood and other stuff.

21up, Generally speaking you are going to wrong direction.

Mamewah 0.97 is not a good choice while there is a later version of
mamewah available.Just check out this forum and you will find that in the past when mamewah 0.97 was the final version,Most of the users
questions were (how to generate a game list in mamewah)

belive me,use a latest available version of mamewah and it is more
flexible and bug fixed version. You will be happy to see in your cab. :)

keep asking if you are unable to configure mame and mamewah.

I told him I was using MAME 0.97 and (the latest version of) mamewah.
(or at least thats what I meant to say)

Is MAME 0.97 not a good choice? it works fine for me.

Hi
thanks xd and minwah for your replies, the reason i used the older versions was after reading for (ever and ever) on the forums .
I did not want to have to try all my roms i have working (438)
and find they wont work in laters virsion and then it will take me forever to get updates or so i think, and yet i dont want to be saddled with mame 32 and windows startup..
If i go the way you and minwah suggest ie latest virsion of both and have probs with roms.

Could either of you please recommend a rom burner where i could purchase the latest dvds of roms that would work with the latest mamewah and mame 0.97 as i just want to stay with one and not keep updating roms or mame.

Thank you both and await your reply (good or bad )

Don't ask for roms here... its against the rules and will otherwise just stir up controversy.

You might want to run your roms through ClrMamePro to verify that they will work with Mame  .97.  You can find a tutorial on it at http://www.mameworld.net/easyemu  At least then you'll know that your roms SHOULD work with your mame version.

Also, you need to get one thing straight in your mind that I'm not quite sure you are grasping.   Mamewah has absolutely nothing to do with how your games run... it's just a pretty way to load them up.  It doesn't matter what version of Mamewah you use, and there is no way that just changing somethign in Mamewah will stop games from working (unless of course you are altering something that affects teh actual mame.exe file.

Basically, you have to be sure that you have Mame up and running correctly before you even worry about Mamewah.  If you don't have the games running correctly through Mame itself, you will never ever get it to work through Mamewah.  If you can get the games working in Mame32, you shoudl be able to get them running in Mamewah.  Even better, try a few games in Mame by using the command line (its very simple if you are new at it, don't be afraid).   Once you know a few are working correctly, you can tackle mamewah without much trouble.

yeah, they are all doing the same thing really. And you're right about them popping up on ads on forums.  They've actually been on this one too, but Saint gets rid of them quickly.
