Advmenu doesn't display after boot up?

I am running advmenu 2.4.5 under dos and have noticed a problem during boot up. If someone hits a key during boot up it will cause advmenu not to display an image. It still loads but there is just a black screen. I have tested this repeatedly with the same results. I was just curious if anyone knew what was going on and if there was a way to prevent keypresses from affecting advmenu?

I know the simple answer is not to hit any buttons during boot up but I have some nieces that play the cabinet and no matter how many times u tell them, they will still do it.
