Sorry Howard.  I have seen hundreds of MAME and other arcade projects and not one has ever been done by a hot chick.  I would imagine that 100% of the people who post on this board are men, no chicks at all (hot or not).
Theres several chicks, err... ummm... women that post here. My wife isn't into the building side of arcade controls but she loves to play. I consider her a hot chick, err... ummm... I mean a beautifull woman.
My statements are my own opinions. They have the value that the reader gives them. My opinion of my opinion varies between foolish and brilliant and these opinions often change with new information.

Hmmm...okay I hope you guys really are patient because I don't see any other company anywhere that is anywhere in the near vacinity of thinking about creating a lightgun that is made to work with Mame.  Act-Labs is the only company interested in exploring this unexplored market.

And just to let you know, we did get an official resonse from them saying that if there was a market for it, then they would continue to try to make a 2 player one and improve them even more.

OFFICIAL RESPONSE TIME!!!

Hmmm interesting...I just checked my email.  I asked Act-Labs about how many pre-orders they had/needed and this is the official response:

Hello,

We expect to hit the pre-order limit soon.  Keep spreading the
word around and we should go into production before Feb/2003.

Regards,

WOOHOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Agreed... some people (cough cough, 1up, cough cough) have spent literally hundreds of dollars on controls alone, but yet they aren't willing to spend 40 more bucks.  Unless your so broke that you can't afford to spend 40 extra bucks on anything, it is practically your duty to get one.

One major reason I'm iffy about getting a gun is that I am using an old TV as a TEMPORARY monitor for my cab.  The cab was actually built to house a WG D9200 at a later date (probably this summer or even earlier.)  If anything, I would need to buy the PC monitor version, although I haven't heard anything as to whether it would work with this monitor.  However, I was told by Oscar that I might be better off just getting a good 27" SVHS TV.

So I really don't want to spend money on a gun that I may or may not be able to use in a few months.  If they said that the new gun would support 2 players, that might be enough to get me to forget the D9200 and just get a bigger TV, but that's another story...

I'm glad that it looks like the TV folks will get a version of the gun to work in there systems.

I just disagree with the mentaility that we allshould sacrifice ourselves (or $$$) because actlabs market research consists of emails from us and accepting pre-orders on a yet to exist product to guage interest.

note trying to flame - just spouting my opinion... and of course if we were talking about pre-orders for a star wars esque yoke, i'd be evangleizing/advertising preo-order stuff like crazy... know what i mean vern?  =)

PS it's redundant but I'd still be much happier with act labs if they had a solution/workaround/hardware to do dueling guns....

It doesn't matter anyway.  Apparently act-labs has already gotten enough pre-orders.  For all of you who still "don't get it"  I pity you.

Act-labs used to be a premiere controller and hardware acessory manufacturer for console systems back in the mid 90's and they still do pretty well on the pc market.  If you think that a lightgun is all they are capable of manufacturing then you are kidding yourself.  The thing is they have to see that we are a viable market to them.  That means you need to compromise and buy their products even if they aren't quite perfect yet.  Lets face it, they are the ONLY commerical company willing to work with us.

If everyone else is willing to throw that connection away then so be it, but I'm not.  I just wish some of you could see the forest for the trees.

Oh an on an unrelated note, snaake your grasp (or lack there of)  of the english language astounds me.  Everyone understood that little joke perfectly except you.  Remember if you are from a non-english speaking country and you don't get the joke then most likely it's just you.  ;P   But I give you a c+ for effort, a saw a good attempt at a humorous response there.  :)

*shrug*  =)

Maybe we could debate this some in the #byaoc sometime ..

I understand the thinking/thought process... I just don't agree with it.

HC, i know you've learnered a thing or two about the economic cycle/production cycle in your day...  and I think we are just seeing the different types/categories of consumers in this thread.  The early adopter, the one after erarly adopter, the wait and seer, not quite all the way up to stodgey ludite still using rotary phones fearing change.

SlikStik tries to cater to us (in the general MAME sense) but we all seem to like to piss on them and not hold charity pre-order drives for them...

I'm sorry I diddn't mean to get back into this...

If people wanted to support act-labs buy their stock (assumign they are publicly traded and not already de-listed =P )

I dunno... I understand the mechanics of what you are saying, I just have philosophical problems with it...   Of course the core question for us, actlabs, any other vendor... is the MAME-ing community large enough and active $$$ wise enough to support new and tailored products.

You know what would be nice, btw, is if actlabs had forum/bbs where they could interact wih their customers, instead of playing the random emailer word-o-mouth game (i.e. centralize the information and the communication with their intended audience).

this post deserves the *double shrug* followed by an "eh"

Okay okay, lets just drop this.

Thanks to us who actually pre-ordered, everyone is going to have the chance to buy the TV Lightgun.  And I think that we will all see in the coming months that Act-Labs is going to be investigating ways to improve the gun for us since they now see that enough of us are willing to support them.

Woohoo to Act-Labs and woohoo to everyone who pre-ordered!
