Trackball, which way? [pics]
« on: December 05, 2002, 12:59:48 am »
Stupid question..

Which way does the trackball mount?
or

Or can it go either way, depending on how its hooked up to an optipac?

(I've got the top 1/2 of the shell, I just removed it to make the pics clearer)

Wire it up and test it before you mount it.

Exact opposite of above if you want the trackball to work in windows and without changing the reverse settings in every game in mame.  So wires coming out of the lower right corner.  This is true for wico, betson, and happs trackballs: wires out at lower right corner.  And this is assuming the wiring wasn't changed from the default.  (You have a wico, right?)

BTW, notice the wico and betson have the reading rollers on the top and left sides, and not on the bottom as the happs.  I *think* this means they are designed to be better on flat, almost flat, golf, or bowling control panels (push trackball up games), while the happs/atari design is better on slanted and cabal/track&field CPs (pull down and push right games).  just a guess.  *shrug*  Note: they all work fine on the games I've tested, so take my design theory with a grain of salt.

Wico, yes
That makes sense for it to be "upside down" to work with windows.. thanks!
