The second one is based on the Atari design, which was used in Centipede. Neither one is "correct", to be correct you need the smaller version of the second design pictured.
Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

i assume either would play the same as if an original centipede trackball?

is it worth trying to find an original centipede trackball instead?

any ideas where to get one?

my posting on BYOAC buy/sell forum has not resulted in anything.

bob roberts seems to only sell parts (and not accept paypal which means difficult for overseas purchase)

If you found an original, you'd end up having to replace the bearings, probably the rollers too, and then if you were unhappy with the old ball, a new ball. Basically, you will have replaced everything but the optics, wires and plastic housing. Total money spent would be close to that of a new one... (depending on brand)

Just keep in mind you need 2 1/4".
NO MORE!!

What's the new millipede/centipede machine using?  I'd just pick up the 2 1/4" Happs.  Believe it was 2 1/4", definitely not  3" like the ones above.  Like Paige said, I think Happs is using the Atari design so should be pretty similar if not identical.

I have a 3 inch Imperial like the first one pictured. Centepede plays great with it in MAME.
