I don't know about Square themselves, but they do have at least four former Square staff members making two exclusive games for the next XBOX (do a search for Mistwalker).

FFVII is one of my favorite games, period.  So as long as Hironobu Sakaguchi is behind the game and Nobuo Uematsu is composing the musical score, that's good enough for me.

Hironobu Sakaguchi started his own company Mistwalker, Square is not making games exclusively for the X360, just Hironobu is.  So FF will most likely still be a Sony exclusive.
Next I'll be on fries, and that's when the big money starts rolling in.

What's Final Fantasy without Hironobu? :-\

Well considering that Sony owns about 15% of Square Enix I don't know what your talking about.  Microsoft hired some guys who did Final Fantasy work a while back.  That's about it though.

Word on the street (and this is just word on the street, mind you) is that the PS3 is going to be a lot more powerful than the Xbox 2.  As much as three times more powerful, even.

Here is the street I'm talking about

I just thought that Sony's Cell processor was capable of P4 3.0ghz computer type speeds but that does not mean the Cell processor in the ps3 will be that fast????

Well...here's an article discussing the Cell processor, and here's a quote from it:

Performance of the processor is said to be in excess of 256GFLOPS (256 billion floating-point operations per second). That's an extremely large number, the sort that you normally throw around when you're talking about arrays of multiple processors or even supercomputers. Measuring FLOPS can be done in a few different ways, but as a comparable number the highest you could get from a fast Pentium 4 these days is somewhere in the upper 20's.

Now still, I say take everything you hear with a grain of salt, since the PS3 is still more than a year away most likely, but it sounds like it's going to be WAY faster than what you describe.  And really, it sure as hell better be considering that it's still 1 to 1 1/2 years away.  P4 3.0 Ghz speeds won't be very impressive that far out.

If what was said about the Cell turns out to be true, it has the potential to be significantly more powerful than both the Xbox360 and the Nintendo Revolution.   In theory, the Cell will be a much more powerful chip.

One thing to note though is how that will affect games.  The Cell might be the more powerful chip, or the most "capable" chip... but we have to see how it actually gets used.

I'll wait to see what the games actually look like.  It's great to say the chip is 2345345x faster, but if the games don't show it, what is the point.

I can't picture a PS3 that's not backwards compatible. The PS2 launched with a libary of hundreds of games because it was backwards compatible.

I never had an original xbox, but I may have to reconsider all of a sudden with this new one coming out. However, I've prety much already determined that i'll be getting a PS3. In my mind, though, Nintendo hasn't put out an impressive system since the Super Nintendo (arguably the best game console ever for its respective time). :P

Ken Kutaragi confirmed PS3 backwards compatibility over a year ago.  I haven't really been following up on everything, but I don't see how that would change after it was "officially" announced.

So yes... You'll probably see a PS3 that is backwards compatible.  And that includes playing PS2 and PS1 games.

Backwards compatibility would sure sweeten the deal for me as far as the PS3 is concerned.  I never bit on the PS2.  I got a Gamecube, and then the Xbox became irresistable to me when the mod scene exploded.  Now I've already got far more games than I have time for so PS2 isn't even a temptation.  If PS3 is a rad system, though, AND it will allow me to catch some of the PS2 exclusives I missed out on, it would be very tempting indeed.

My gut feeling is the two systems will be comparable.  I've seen screenshots of each and they look about the same....also considering some of the games released for both systems by third parties are also being released on PC....you get the picture....the xbox 360 has three 3 gig processors...each with two pipelines...if I remember right....that's alot of processing power....someone correct me if I'm wrong....the sony has the cell processor, which I heard is 4.6 gig.  It is also going to use a Blu Ray BD-Rom...again, from what I've heard....we will hopefully know more this week from E3....but I don't think we'll see the real next gen games til developers have more time with the hardware....6 months to a year....

The new xbox will have 3 3.2 ghz processors, and a teraflop of performance.  Sorry guys, but I think the new xbox will be more powerful.  It is also said that sony is behind in its development and will cut some corners (not that they need to cut anymore) to get it's release as close to xbox's as possible.  Don't remember where I read that though.

You think it'll be more powerful... since you've had a lot of first hand experience with the Cell processor right?  The processor than some people believe could usher in a new era of performance for a CPU.......

More crap with no info behind it.  No one will know what is more powerful until we can all have them sitting in our living rooms.

And even then... power is not everything for a console.. not by a long shot.

Sorry about that, it was just what I heard.  You're absolutely right.  I would trade performance for 'fun to play factor' any day.
