help with sluggish controller?
« on: November 27, 2002, 05:31:45 pm »
Is there a known problem with USB controllers responding slightly slowly to MAME?

I'm using MAME32 in Windows 98, and playing from my keyboard, I have immediate response. The keyboard works just fine....

But when I hook up my Playstation controller via the Kiki-Joy USB interface, there's a slight delay..it makes the games feel sluggish. I've tried it with three different Playstation controllers and it does the same. Any thoughts on this?

Thanks for any help you can provide!

And this is why i never bothered to get that KIKI crap...
I knew there was something funny like this.I had problem with another convertrer like this. Its just hard to play street fighter with these converter.I tried on XP and 98 and both had delays so I just bought 2 new onces.

If you can,get the radio shack onces..works perfect.

I noticed a slight delay with my USB convertor when I used a Sony Dual Shock psx controller, but when I use my cheap Gamestop digital controller, I have 0 problems with delayed fireballs.  I'm not sure if the brand has something to do with this, or it could even be the drivers, but trying a 5 dollar cheap controller might be worth a shot to see if that's the problem.

For the record: I have never noticed any delay with my Kiki Joy.  But I use Win2000.  Could be a win98 issue (I don't even think  win98 is truely a mutli-threaded OS).

BLEEEEEEEEP!  :P

wrong statment...it has nothing to do with actual psx game pads(any).its the converters themselves and OS and proper driver.

I highly recomend radio shack onces.I got one last weekend(they were on sale local for $7.99)..very nice.works and everything :)

Snake, tried your suggestion...I bought a PS/USB converter at Radio Shack and it's working perfectly now. Thanks for the advice!

Regards,
Mario
