Getting rid of smoker's smell?
« on: April 30, 2005, 10:11:55 pm »
Do all arcade parts and everything off EBAY come with the new fresh scent of ciggarette smoke?

Seems everything I've gotten smells, and I'm not that picky.  Joysticks, eh I can clean them no problem.  Yoke, the same.  NES controllers, I can clean, but what did you all do with your NES controllers keep'em in the trash and then only bring them out when you wanted to blow smoke on them?

My latest were a couple of NES strategy guides( I was feeling a bit NEStalgic,  ::)).  Anyways, how do remove that smell from magazines and books?

Ugh my son came back from a birthday party at a smokers house he smells like a ashtray. And yes I smoked for 23 years before I realized smoking makes as much sense as walking across a freeway blindfolded. My dad gave a his old laptop which came from his house and he smokes after a year later it still smells of smoke when the cooling fan starts up.  With summer almost here try leaving them by a open window might help.

Greased Lightning. Best thing I've ever found for removing smoke residue.

I just got a NES powerglove off ebay..

You could smell it from outside the box, before I even opened it.

My wife won't allow it into the house.

I think she won't allow it into the house because it's a powerglove.  ;D
Now in a tasty new flavour.

Little worried about spraying liquid on the books and magazines.  I suppose the Febreeze might work as that comes out in a mist and I could put it near a window, but it still is a little worriesome.  Not sure if Greased Lightning comes out in a mist like that.

Yeah, I saw arcade parts and game controllers, not books. GL is a little strong for paper products. ;)

I smoke so I do not smell the stuff.
I am a hunter. getting rid of smell is a must.
I would try going to wal mart, sporting goods, "scent away" or any thing like that.
spray on some cotton, toss magazines in a plastick bag, with in a day this should work. works for deer.
yes I take a book with me when I go hunting. also mp3 player.

Interesting idea. Just be sure you don't get the skunk scented stuff. ;)

I smoke and I've ordered things before that I thought reeked like smoke.  you have to remember when someone is holding a controller the ciggarette is about an inch away from the controller. with magazines and any paper material there so dang pourus that the stench just soaks into the material, youre pretty much screwed on those.

Put it on a pile of fish for a week.

It won't smell like smoke anymore.

Thanks for the suggestion.  I went to the store and got fox urine and am glad to say the smoke smell is gone.

On a separate topic, Does anyone know how to remove the smell of fox urine?

Try picking up smoking.

It will make you look real cool, and you won't be bothered by the smoking smell.

Fredster, what if I used to smoke, but don't smoke now, and don't mind being around smokers...does that count?  Whatever it takes, man, just tell me you don't hate ME! :'(

I'm a militant smoker.

I give cigarettes to kids.  That way, when they grow up I can bum off them...

You're cool crap, Fred, but I generally avoid hanging out with smokers.  I get sick of them going outside every 20 minutes and leaving their smoker trash all over the ground.  No one in my house smokes and my front yard is littered with butts people throw out of their cars.

put a large ashtray out there or a bucket with Kitty litter in it out there.
what are your friends or family supposed to do with there butts?

Did you see the part where he says it's littered by people throwing them out of their cars?  If his friends or family were the ones making such a mess, I have all the confidence in the world that Chad not only would set them straight about what goes on in polite society, but that a little impromptu cleaning session would ensue! ;D

If he's got people driving by who are SO ACCURATE with the flicking of their ciggy butts that they can put them into a large ass-tray from a moving vehicle, then those people should be putting those skills to better use than crapping up his front yard.

I know you prolly missed that car part, so don't take that the wrong way dawayne :)

Oh, and before I forget..........I said "butts" ;D

Plus, we learned that lesson from the kids' sandbox.  Too many cats in the area.  It only took a couple times sitting the sandbox and digging up turds to realize it just ain't practical.

LOL.
but really a small $1.00 bucket will be fine. all my family has them on the porch. To small of a bucket to squat

I noticed that Happ Controls sells a product called Bad Air Sponge:

Anyone have any experience with it?
