They need to get one of those electo-shocking collars. My friend's dog went on a barking spree a few months back so she got the collar. It sounded a little cruel, but we tried it out on ourselves to make sure the shocks were'nt too painfull; it starts with a mild shock, the shocks get harsher with repeated barking (or shouting if you've got it strapped around your own neck).
Now the dog only barks if there's something really wrong now, and I don't shout as much.

I live upstairs from an animal shelter. They only get dogs every couple of weeks, but I've learned to shut out the barking just like muting the wife's naggings.  ;)

CC,

Great advice. We're pretty much following this line of attack. I just talked with the landlord's assistant downstairs and it turns out the landlord is in "eviction mode", meaning our town is seeing an extreme influx of potential renters, so our landlord sees no need for keeping troublesome tenants around. Usually, as long as people are paying he doesn't seem to care whether their quality of life suffers. Sucks that it takes a change in the market for him to respond, but unfortunately, it's all about the money with him, as it is with most run-of-the-mill building owners.

OMG our nextdoor neighbor has two birds that go at it every evening for about 3 hours!  True, it's not exactly middle of the night keep you up annoying but it's pretty retarded to have to turn something on just to drown out the noise.  The thing that makes it the worst is that they're not doing anything wrong as far as the law and even the rules of the apartments go so there's absolutly nothing we can do.

I don't even see the point of owning birds, it's not like they pur or are even happy to see you when you get home.  Leave 'em all outside where they can fly free as they are meant to!

Many a time I have contemplated breaking in with a sheet and a can of carbon monoxide and taking care of the problem myself.  Unfortunatly, I have no idea where one would get a can of carbon monoxide...  :(

I sure hope that animal control thing works out for you though.  Have you ever seen that show on animal planet, it's called like animal cops or something stupid like that (my gf watches it).  They friggin take away like everyone's animals on that show.  Hopefully it's the same without the cameras!  ;)
