Showcase Cabinet Stability issue

I am building a Showcase cabinet its found in this thread http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=43729.0

The pic below is of the monitor stand, keep in mind it has a very strong 2x4 frame for a skeleton




Now my question is do you guys think if i cut the back bottom part that juts out in diagram (A) will the stability be effected?

Its not the sturdiness of the frame you need to be concerned with, I believe its the tendency for it to tip that would be the potential problem.

The 33" tube is quite heavy and will put torque on the base of the stand because it (the tube) hangs off of the side that you want to remove... It may have a tendency to lift up the front half of the cabinet if any horizontal force is put towards the monitor face.

The jut out on the front of the monitor stand usually connects to a jut out on the back of the CPanel to give stability and hide the wires.

In a word, yes ... stability will be affected. Not sure if it will be consequential without some idea of scale and monitor mounting (as RA says, 33" tube is HEAVY).

For reference, the base for the monitor stand on mine (a Dynamo, not DIY)  is about 32" square with the centre of gravity nicely in the middle.
