question about some different makes of controls..
« on: May 08, 2002, 04:11:26 pm »
i'm planning on building a mame cab over the summer. i am very new to electronics and such (read: ive soldered twice, both times in metals shop a few years ago, and ive never done anything with wires but break them when taking apart old electronics when i was younger  :P). anyway, i have a few questions. http://www.ultimarc.com, the people whoe make the IPAC, also sell controls. they are fairly cheap too. i was wondering if anyway can sort of give me a review for these, or if i should stick with my current plans of using happ controls super joysticks. also, as for buttons.. i thought most every arcade button out was a momentary contact? i would like one just like a normal arcade button (i push it, action happens), nothing fancy. at happ controls, they sell a couple different kinds. i was looking at the competition button, when i saw a button advertised as a momentary contact. considering they are the same price, can someone tell me which one to get? last question about controls, but do any of these manufacturers include wiring or supplies with their orders?

as for power, i plan on plugging all the electronics into a surge protector inside the cabinet. is there a way that i can make a button available outside the cab, much like this one: http://www.happcontrols.com/powersupplies/49000500.htm..turn on the surge protector, and have the protector still due its job against electrical surges?
finally, is there a way i can make a seperate button turn on the lights in the marquee? (i dont plan on having them run alot, just to show it off)

thanks for your help in advance.
