Need some help from font experts
« on: July 19, 2005, 09:46:41 pm »
I'm searching for a freeware/shareware/low cost font that matches this one (attached below). As far as I can find out it's called EXPANSIONN43. If it has alternate names from other font foundrys I can't find them.
I've found it for sale in the $35 - $45 range and I'll pay that much if I have to, but I'd rather not have to.
If anyone has an alternative I'd be happy to hear about it....

If you aren't terribly picky to have an exact match, I would suggest Univers Condensed family if you have it available.

The suggestion and sample I am providing right now is only good for titles and after a little bit of manipulation. If you were planning on using this text for body copy (which I hope not), then it might be worth the cash if you REALLY want that typeface.

Just to explain the sample further...

Top font is original unedited Univers Condensed Bold (67)

Middle is just some quick basic manipulation, convert to paths, add stroke, skew, distort.

Bottom is your original sample

I have a huge font book I'll consult at home and see if I can find anything else out. It's a 5" binder full of font families clearly laid out... it's amazing. It was a lovely parting (escape) gift from a fellow oppressed designer at the printer I first worked for. If I find something closer and without the needed hassle of maniputlation I will send it along.

Hope this is a bit of help to get you started!

Univers Condensed Bold was certainly close enough to do the trick once I tweaked it a bit.
Unless I overlay the text I really can't tell the difference.
Thanks for your help.
