Star Wars MAME High Score problems

Hello all.  I've been researching Mame. high-scores on this forum, and have it mostly figured out.
I'm using a build of Mame64 148.u2 which supports high scores.
I downloaded the Hiscore.dat file from http://highscore.mameworld.info/download.htm
I have a Vdram folder and everything has "read only" turned off.
My high scores seem to work in a lot of games (like Robotron for example), but no matter what I do, I can't get it to work with the original Star Wars game.  After I achieve a high score, exit the game, come back in and it's not there.  But here's the kicker.. when I get a high score the file under "vdram/starwars" gets updated....(according to the modified timestamp)

Any ideas?

All depends how high your score is as only the top three scores are saved - the others reset.
However if you are getting the number one score and its not saving , then I do not know sorry.
