Vertical Games On A Horizontal Monitor - Again.

Using: MAMEWAH, 19" Arcade monitor, Win XP SP2, and an ArcadeVGA card, standard MAME.

I am forcing all vertical games to 640X480, hardware stretch is on (via AVres tool).

When I look at some of them, take Dig Dug for example after I put a 'coin' in the game and the next screen comes up before starting the game, as I look at the text on the screen, it makes me feel like I need to squint to get rid of what my eyes are seeing as

Stretching games with a fraction will always create a blurry image.

If you allow the monitor to display more lines, e.g. 512 instead of 480, you can run most vertical games with integer stretch.
The drawback is that horizontal games get a small black border.

This is very interesting...but how can we force the AVGA card to display 512 lines? There is no option in MAME/MAME32 for this resolution. Do we need to set this up manually in teh INI files generated by AVRES tool? ??? ???
