I am looking for a MAME cabinet
« on: November 01, 2002, 03:11:03 pm »
Does anyone know where I can buy an upright MAME cabinet on the east coast (preferably in PA, OH, or NY)? I was quoted $3300 to have one made (ready to install CD ROMS)-is that too high?

somethings worth, what anyone will pay for it... You can of course build your own much, much cheaper... but it costs your time and energy...

It's a personal decision... most people here tend to like the challenge of building their own from scratch, or retrofitting an existing cabinet to buying a MAME'd cabinet outright...

I think there's a guy in NJ that will custom build for you, not sure about the price...  I think snaaaake is/was selling his MAME cabinet and he's in NY *shrug*

Good luck...

ps let me know if NJ is too far or not and I'll dig up the link or links to his ebay auctions..

I am definitely interested in finding out about your cabinet-how much would you want for it and is it 2 players?

1500 was the high bid on ebay till they closed the auction.

you wanna sell him one for two thousand dollars and your calling mine pricey?

wireless keyboard/mouse, DVD drive, 27" monitor, hotrod, samurai showdown 2 motif etc, I spent about a grand on all the parts to my offer isnt too unreasonable.

If he wants your cab fine, but dont go insulting me or my cab.

sorry..but again..you should def try ebay again as long as no word "roms" are there..the dumb scan wont kill you auction again.

the laminates i am using cost like $75 a sheet(4x8) so do the math...

$3.95 contact paper V.S $150 worth of laminate(got some left over but still had to pay that big amount).

Hi Pedtp:

I'm not going to offer anything for sale here.... but just want to jump in and say a couple of things...

- there is NO CORRECT PRICE as to which one is cheap and which one is epxensive.... it depends if its a BRAND NEW cab, a modified gutted cab... and also.. what's inside...
what PC, what joystick/buttons/spinner/trackball... etc. is on this thing... also... what monitor....

since there are a lot of varying factor, it is hard to say if this is a good deal or expensive or what not....

if you're willing to spend $3000 or so on a cabinet....
(I would consider its a "pretty big investment"....)

then I would suggest you actually go to their places and check out the machine and play a couple of games yourself there... check out the machine inside out, take a look inside out... play and feel the machine before you commit to buy... not that I don't trust guys here... (actually, guys here are VERY HELPFUL !!!...) but sometimes, digital pics and so sometimes CANNOT present the thing well enough.....

so, I'm sure if I'm buying,  even for $1500-2000, 2-3 days of going to the guy and checking it out is well worth my time.  And I'm sure the guys selling here would have no pblm arranging some time like an hour or so to let you check it out and play a bit....

On the other hand, if spending something like $3000 or so to you is like small change and you don't think its worth your time to check it out, then I would suggest spend BIG BUCKS and get a BRAND NEW FULL FEATURED CAB with ALL OPTIONS and BIGGEST monitor and also purchase a waranty plan..... (since in this case, your time is definitely worth more than $$.... then you BUY all features....)

my $0.0002 cents of personal opinion....

-----------------------

Sorry.... Snaaake.... I usually really NOT like jumping in...

but you selling technique is REALLY LOW.... stepping on other people's cab....

you can sell whatever you want for whatever price you want, and if someone checks in a lower price, you should ask them to compare, but should not step on other's product like this.... you sounded very much like a desperate used car salesman.....  *** sigh ***

Another Brilliant mind ruined by education....  :p

heh...heh..you are funny..

Dude the monitor I ordered cost over $500 brand new.as usual..the panel looks shiny and everything is like new here.Anyone is welcome to come and play andI am not even interested on selling this cabinet as i worked really really hard for it BUT $2000 might he usefull if i FINALLY can/might get that 34" show case cabinet with a brand new $800 monitor(total would probley run about $3000 custom built by my local arcade).Thats about it.I wont even sell it to Pedtp unless there was an advance payment just to make sure he takes it.Because there are many things i want to add like interface for dreamcast and other systems and I got tons of other plans. However,if I am selling MAME cabinet only then its less work for me and if the guy pays something in advance then I am willing to sell otherwise NO !.

Didn't mean to insult anyone's cabinet if people thinks thats what I did.

P.S.  Will post a pic later on after the monitor is here :).

You should check out Hanaho.com.    They sell new ones, I beleive from in the $2000 - $3000 range, plus shipping which runs about $200-$300.    They are in Cerritos, CA, but they ship almost anywhere.

I might be wrong.. but I believe the hanaho cabinets are PC ready... meaning there's no PC included.  THey are "authentic" specially made arcade cabinets by a real arcade cabinet manufacturer tailored to putting a PC in it.. but just figure the price of the PC in to your considerations..

Hey pedtp, not sure if you found what you were looking for yet, although I have 4 very nice Japanese sitdown cabinets converter to Mame if interested.  I know in your original post you mentioned upright, although these are very nice and comfortable when sitting in a chair rather than stool or standing.

I went ahead and threw some links to some pics I have here and there on  www.mamegame.com

feel free to drop me an email if you have any questions...
