NFL Blitz PC Config problems
« on: October 25, 2004, 06:21:55 am »
ok I was in Saskatoon and found  NFL Blitz 2000 for the PC for like $5 Canadian

When I got home I installed it onto my mame cabinet

AthlonXP 2000+
512 ram
Windows XP Pro

The game runs great when using the default controls but everytime I try and Configure the game for use with the arcade controls it seems to lockup or something cause it doesnt seem to want to accept inputs from my IPaq or my keyboard for that matter ...

I have tried with the IPaq by itself and the kayboard all by itself and still no go ...

I tried to run it in win98 Compatibility mode and that doesnt seem to do anything either and was wondering if anyone has any ideas?

I have tried searching the net via google for an hour for possible Patches / updates for the game with no luck, all I find are cheat codes for it ...

Please Help and Thanks in advance

yea so I was able to get it to accept inputs from my ipaw but I was not able to use buttons 1 -  2 as they use left CTRL/ALT keys :(

is that cause the game just doesnt like them or is it just me ...

also where can I get the PS2 to PS2  cable from so I can finally program this ipaq ... I checked ultimarc and all I could see was the usb cable (which I am currently using)

Thanks again in advance

The key setup in that program sucks.

The first thing to do is use the IPAC program winipac and make a profile for your IPAC that doesn't use the control or alt keys.

Then you have to set up in Blitz (shudder)...

I ended up setting everything to keys I wasn't going to use, then resetting them to the buttons I was going to use to avoid conflicts. That was the only way I could get it to go.

One thing to remember, the coin op didn't use the "pass left/right/center" buttons the game offers, so all you really need to set up is the stick and turbo/jump/pass/start buttons.

There's no real smoking gun to fixing this one, you just have to mess with it until you get it how you like it.

And you don't need the PS2 cable to program your IPAC, my programs just fine with the USB. This may sound odd, but try a different USB port. When I had a prramming issue, I switched USB ports, the IPAC reinstalled, and everything was fine! Just get the winipac program from ultimarc and you're on your way!

custom config on the i-pac is the only way to go unfortunately.
I actually ended up re-programming the ipac and then changing everything else to match my NFL Blitz requirements.

I've gotten smarter since then, setting up different profiles like Gunstar metnioned.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread; but, I too have similar questions about configuring Blitz.

Just so I understand - you're recommending reprogramming the IPAC just for Blitz and then reprogramming the other emulators to match the new config for the IPAC?    The last post from Bill_S confused me because it seemed like he was creating a game specific profile... I didn't realize you could switch IPAC profiles on the fly.

I don't know if that's worth the effort just for one game.   I can get player 2 configured and I may just let the game be a one player game if this is the only option.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I created a specific Blitz IPAC profile which gets launched whenever I choose Blitz from my frontend.  After exiting Blitz, my frontend-specific IPAC profile gets launched so I can navigate my frontend.  I have maybe a dozen or so profiles that get launched similarly.

Is there an ipac tutorial on how to do this?

Yeah, it's the best idea to take control and alt out of the rotation ASAP, since many programs and emulators use them for hotkeys and shortcuts and whatnot.

So, after taking them out of the equation - you're left with reprogramming the other emus, correct?

I'm with Scoobie, I'd love to learn more about creating different IPAC profiles that are then loaded with different apps.   Specifically, having a standard profile used with all Mamewah launched emus except the PC games launched from Mamewah.   This is the first I've heard of this capability.
