CAD software?
« on: March 09, 2005, 01:42:27 pm »
Is there any good free CAD software or maybe a functional demo version?  I would like to design a custom joystick shaft and just pass on a file for estimates locally instead of faxing some ugly drawing I did by hand.

Did you do a search? What? No?! I did. I found a couple threads relating to the topic.

Yes, I found one thread asking about cad and 3d modeling.  focused more on 3d modeling so I thought I would post a new thread since I don't care about 3d modeling.
Also "cad" tends to bring up a lot of threads because it in "arcade".
Point me in the direction of the other thread, I must have missed it.

I'd recommend TurboCAD 7. I got it free with a magazine but it's probably somewhere on the net as well.

All three of those threads speak of free CAD software.

I searched "topic subjects only" for "cad software" in all forums.

QCad user myself:

http://www.ribbonsoft.com/qcad.html

Used it for 2 cab designs so far, as well as some test bezel cutouts and other things.

I've had no formal CAD training.  It was pretty easy to pick up.  2D only.
