Dance Dance Revolution
« on: October 25, 2002, 02:11:22 pm »
Ok, I think the game kinda sucks... but i have 2 daughters and one is almost ready to play games like that (and it would get her some excersize at the same time)

I read over at RetroGames that a simulator is out there that runs a bunch of file formats.  It also looks like some of those games (crappy girly color scheme, ect).

So anyong doing this in their cab?
Are the songs like roms where you can't download them from most servers?
Is the playstation pads good enought for a few kids?
Will others on the board make fun of me if I make one?

thanks

Girly color scheme!!!  Their skinable!

Anyway, check out www.stepmania.com and www.ddrmaniax.net.  Goto simfiles at maniax to get songs.  Songs are just an mp3 (or ogg in latest version of stepmania) and a file with the steps in it (usually in dwi or sm file format).

Goto the forums at ddrmaniax, the review DDR pads and USB convertors so you can hook up a DC or PSX pad to the PC.  Best products are from redoctane.com.  BTW, soft pads SUCK!  My friend has some for his psx, they move around too much.  In the spirit of building your own arcade, you could build your own hard pad.  http://www.angelfire.com/d20/ddrhomepad/

I won't make fun of you:)  I am putting it on my cabinet for excersize.  When you play it with someone else it actually is fun.  I also have Samba De Amigo for the DC with the maracas which is half way fun.

Oh yeah, PM me sometime, I found the Disney DDR mix, little girls might like that.

For anyone else interested in this one link above is incorrect.

ddrmaniax.com should be ddrmaniax.net

FWIW: I have 4 daughters...   They'll love this, thanks for the post, I have never heard of this before...

That's what I get for bookmarking it...

BTW Stepmania 3.0 final came out this week. MUCH more refined from the last couple of betas.

The first time I saw one of those in an arcade all I could think was......

If they had those in arcades when i was a kid..... those kids playing it would've gotten the CRAP beaten outta them! hehe

DISCO SUCKS! *POW!!*

Actually like it my self  ;D.  It's a good cardio work out.  I have the DDR on my PC and using a USB adaptor from the Playstation pad.  Problem is that the tenant below is complaining too much  :(.  So I have to cut down playing a little bit.  Although I will only play it at home and not in the arcade. ;D ;D ;D
No Offense, it's just a suggestion

I've never seen one of those in an arcade actually...... probobly for the very reason I mentioned above. hehe

The arcades I used to go to were ROUGH. No squeaky clean gaming chains..... it was all dark and nasty with heavy metal blaring outta the jukebox.  :P

Simon Says games are just asking for blood shed and I think the operators knew this hehe

You didn't have dragon's lair?  That's essentially a simon says game.  You don't control the action, just along for the ride.  Some visual indication on the screen tells you what to do and if you don't do it something bad happens, hey, just like DDR.

As I said, there are plenty of 80s games where you are told what to do.
