Just curious if I should make the trip down from CT or not.......this looks like a monthly thing, wasn't sure if it was still loaded with good games, or just tons of collectors each trying to get a discs of tron and paying huge dollars for one...

I've been thinking about going to an auction just for the experience... although I don't have an intention of buying anything (unless some game I wanted sat at 50 bucks, but i'd have some explainging to do when I got home...)

You looking for carpool action halvsies on the tolls/gas?  I have a small pickup truck so if you didn't and were going to purchase something, and I happen to be driving, that might be helpful...

*Shrug* need to check my sched to see what's going on, my wife mighta already signed me up for something... =P

I wish there was a MASS auction or something a little closer...

I might be down actually.. I'm from Southwestern CT (Naugatuck Valley).

Fire me a PM or an e-mail and we'll talk about it.

I got a buddy of mine who wanted to check it out....its in Pennsauken NJ, kinda a haul......4+ hours I think...off teh Jersey Turnpike.

I just got a free cab and was talking with the guy who got it for me, he said the auction is pretty cool, worth checking out if just to see the games and stuff.
Not many $50 working games but non-workings perhaps.

I dont really have the money or space for another cab right now...and I dunno what I'd spend $400 or more on that wasn't a Lunar Lander or Discs of Tron, and I ain't gettin either of those for $400 :D

I was just curious...might be cool to check out.  There's one on the 21st of this month I think, and then on December 7th.  I might try to make the December one.  I figure if I drop the seats in the Tahoe I can get one game in the back :D
My buddy has a pickup..maybe TWO in the back of HIS :D

Just curious if people had gone, whatthey thought of it, etc.  Its a long ride to just window shop however.  I dont know of any closer auctions...

Ah the South Jersey expo auctions... I went to the last one they had last season back in May(I didn't know it was the last one when I went).  Funny thing is I stumbled upon it after looking around the internet for 'arcade auctions', turns out it was in 2 days, and I was living in New Brunswick, NJ at the time.....so I went to check it out.

My newbie, unbiased impressions:  pretty long and tedious, with occasional happenings.  I, of course, was driving my little sedan, so buying anything was out - but they did have lots of parts and such.  Lots of things like boxes of as-is junk/parts or huge boxes of like 50 coin doors.  They even sold a laserdisc for around 15 bucks, this was before I discovered daphne and to keep from kicking myself constantly I picture all the laserrot it has :P  it has laserrot it has laserrot it has laserrot(nobody knew which disc it was or what kind of shape it was in).

They had TONS of standup games and quite a few pins, too.  Though I will say this: if you want a cab, and if it's anything like the one I went to, plan to stay the whoooole day.  It opened at like 9 or so and I left at 1pm before they even started selling cabs.  They were still auctioning off little stuff when I left.  Oh and bring a 50ft extension cord to test out any machine you may want.  It was 10$ if you wanted to bid, free to observe.  Hot dogs weren't bad.

Sorry I can't say how the coin-op games faired, I had to get home and was tired of waiting for the good action.  Good luck if you go and let us all know what you pick up!

My problem now is if I go, I'm not coming back empty handed.
And that means I'll have to bring a wad of cash...and figure out a place
to put the thing :)

Basically, I'm *afraid* to go cuz I KNOW I'd buy something.....and THEN I'd be stuck :)

Discs of Tron wont fit in the Tahoe, I know that...not the environmental one!!!!

I wonder if I could convince the wife to let me keep Operation Wolf in the backyard on the patio? :D

And here we find the inherent problem with collecting old video coin ops.   Space requirements!!

At www.basementarcade.com you can find the pricelists of the recent auctions and some cool pics snapped from each show.

The problem again is one of space, and do you really want to spend $400 dollars and lug home a 250 pound MDF box to play Satans Hollow?  I appreciate the art and nostalgia factor, but it does make one think practically for a moment.

Some of the games recently auctioned that would have interested me:
Narc...partly I like the game, partily I really like the Cab and would love to find one to make a MAME cab out of.

That Capcom bolwing that got converted from a Toobin? I'd have bought that just to get the funky Cab.....

But I digress........the auction seems cool, but my biggest problem is if I go, I'm buying something...and frankly the stuff I want to buy is either too big (sit downs) or too expensive (Discs of Tron, Lunar Lander) for me to really justify the expenditure.   Then again.....I could fit a few cabs in the basement......
 ;D

Here's my question to anyone who's gone to one of these things: does anyone sell defective cabinets at the auction? I'm hoping they do. I don't even need a monitor. And what day is it happening? Is it the 21st, or the 26? Thanks again!

Banacek,

Check out http://www.basementarcade.com/arcade/auction/index.html
They have a list of most of the NJ auctions, and prices that things went for.  It seems there are a few gutted/broken cabs up for grabs in the sub $100 and sub $20 price ranges.

I would also try the rec.videogames.icantrememberwhichoneexactly newsgroups.  Request a gutted cabinet and the areas you are willing to travel to grab one, and you may get lucky.  I did this, and in less than a week I picked up a cabinet not more than 20 minutes away from me for 'a case of beer'.  I was underage at the time, so I gave him $20.  ;D

Bring that 50 ft. extension cable that Frostilicious recommended. Even if you aren't buying a working machine, you can kill some time playing.  :)

Here's what may happen to you when you buy a non-working cab for $40... ;D

..as his cold lifeless fingers lie motionless on the garage floor, all he could hear in his head was...I JUST WANTED TO PLAY A GAME OF DONKEY KONG!!
