CD with all songs recoded as one track
« on: January 27, 2005, 09:33:42 am »
I havea CD that I'd like to rip to mp3's.

The problem is that it was recorded as one track, even though it is 11 songs.

What is the best way to get this split into individual mp3's for each song?

I am using ExactAudioCopy per DrewKaree's excellent instructions.

I use a program called MP3 chopper. Rip the CD first then use it to break it into tracks.
One (of many) sources for the program

Erik, try this and see if it'll work.

In EAC, after putting the CD in and connecting to freeDB (HAH!  ;) ) to get the info, go up top to
Action -->Detect Gaps.  IIRC, after it detects all the gaps, you can go to Action -->Append Gaps.  Whatever is checked should add the gap (USUALLY silence, but YMMV) to either the previous or next song, and "split" it up like that for you.

I wish I could be more helpful on this one, but I've only got one CD that was set up like this....most live CD's split it for you; it's the odd one that DOESN'T, so I only had to do this once, and I THINK this was how I went about doing it.

Lemme know if that works or if I'm off my rocker (more so than usual  ;D )

Otherwise, if you have Nero or EZ CD Creator, you could rip it as a .wav file and split it up with the .wav editors of those programs.

Nero lets you convert to mp3 after you split it up too, so if you have that, that could be your all-in-one solution, but I dunno if Nero has a LAME or MAD (another awesome encoder) plug-in.  The difference in encoders prolly WON'T be in the LEAST bit noticeable, so just use Nero's encoder unless you wanna hassle with seeing if LAME will work in Nero.

And if you don't have Nero....then I can't help ya.....I don't like EZ CD Creator.

mp3directcut will do the job.  You can crop songs out one at a time.  You'll need some kind of tagging program if you want ID3 tags, though.

We have a winner!!

MP3DirectCut did the job with a minimum of fuss, it even handled the most of the ID3 tags.

Then I used MP3Tag to fix the Title tags.
