Metal Panels for Atari Cocktail Cabinet
« on: December 30, 2004, 01:08:27 pm »
I am looking for a place that could fabricate two metal control panels for and Atari Cocktail cabinet. Does anyone have any idea if there is anyone who does this? I am just looking for the bare metal to be cut and bent to size. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know.

thanks,
Kid

I've read the best way to get this done is calling up or visiting small sheet metal shops locally. The smaller the better. Make it a cash deal. Otherwise the prices you'll get quoted will make you choke.
NO MORE!!

I've got two empty metal panels from a Tempest Coctail I'd let go.  They've only got the original holes in them, so they're not too cut up.  If the existing holes interfere with your control layout, I think there was a tutorial somewhere on how to fill metal panel holes.  I'll try to dig out my panels out for pics/measurements, and find that tutorial (was it Oscar's?) if you're interested.

I am very interested in the Tempest metal panels. Please let me know the dimensions and the price that you are looking for them. Thank you also for your reply.

Oops, almost forgot to check back on this thread.  I'll try to dig those out and get you some measurements this evening.

If it doesnt pan out with Kremmit I might have a couple of brushed steel control panels that were custom made a while back. What sort of holes do you need? I have one panel configured for fighters and one for trackball games.

I really was looking for either blank or fighter. The Tempest ones also would be nice, I could make them swappable. Do you have two Fighter ones that would fit an Atari Cocktail cabinet? Let me know. Thanks for the response.

I have a 15" Midway style that is blank that was intended to be a 3rd control panel. This could be cut down to make to control panels.

 PM me if interested.

Didn't find 'em till tonight, but I've got 'em now.

Each control panel is 15 3/16 inches wide.  They're about 2 3/8 inch thick, but they're hinged , so they can be opened or shut to make them a bit thicker or thinner depending on how far apart your mounting holes are. The useable control surface is 7" front to back, but the leading edge of the panel will stick out about another 3/4 inch, if it matters.

The overlays have some cracking/wear, but are still pretty good.

Here's a pic- sorry about the quality, I had to take stills with my video cam.  My new digital still cam should arrive tomorrow, according to FedEx.com, so if you're still interested, PM me and I'll take you some better shots.  And let me know if you need any other measurements as well.

(Pic shows spinner & buttons, but I'm keeping those.  I will leave the wiring & molex underneath, though.)

Thanks for your reply. I am at work now, but when I get home later tonight I will measure to see if they will fit.

I finally got the time to measure the size f the panels that I need tonight, and I think that the panels that you have are a bit to big to fit. The length from the front to back on my cabinet is about 6 inches and I really do not want to alter the cabinet in any way. Thanks for the offer anyways.
