Phone line acceptable wire?

I have a lot of phone lines and I am wondering if they are acceptable to use for wiring?  Otherwise I will run to Radio Shack and get the actual 22 gauge wires.  I saw a post somewhere here but I can't find it.  What is the part number for the quick disconnects all male (or is it female?)  One package with one "sex" not both.

for buttons and joystick wiring... I'm pretty sure phone line wires are good enough....

i used cat5 which is hte same as phone line but a few more wires, works great, you buy the .187 FEMALE quick disconnects, buy the shielded ones from happs if you can, they are way nicer and fit over hte pin on hte switch much bette rthan the radio shack brand.

cat5 is nice cause you can strip the ends and leave the body of hte wire still shielded for nice clean wiring

Thanks, guys.  Yeah I forgot to mention it is for buttons and joysticks.  I hacking a gamepad for a 4-way joystick.  A friend of mine is in town for the weekend and he will solder for me.  

I also plan to use the phone wire when I get the IPac.  I plan to do the 2 player control panel.

Phone wire will be fine - I used it often in the past, along with alarm wire which is only slightly thicker.

Just make sure when you use it to wire up[ to an I-PAC that you bend the end of the wire over into a "U" shape then tin it with solder. That will give the terminals in the I-PAC something serious to bite down on and they WON'T come loose!

I chicked out and bought some 22 solid copper wire from Radio Shack for $4.  It seems easier to work with.  Now I got all the wires in the Sidewinder gamepad.  I still have plenty left for the IPac with two players control panel.  Sometimes going the cheap way is not the best.
