Determining rom version
« on: November 05, 2004, 10:41:58 am »
Is there a technique other than trial and error to determine compatibility of a particular rom zip with the version(s) of mame that support it?

I thought I was working with a .55 rom set for a classics vertical bartop project but a particular one, Space Invaders reports missing files.

The time frame of this was February 2002 so that was around .57 in terms of mame development.

Is there something that can be determined by the source code of mame itself in making this determination?

Thanks in advance for any and all replies.

I don't think there's anything out there like that.

ClrMame checks your roms for accordance with a specified version of Mame.
It can't look at a rom and tell you what version of Mame uses it though. At least not to my knowledge.
