Log-in problems
« on: August 21, 2002, 06:50:23 am »
Does this happen to anyone else?

I log in.  Top message changes to Hey, Tiger-Heli, you have 0 messages.  I select a forum.  Top message changes to "Welcome guest, please log-in or register".

Cycle repeats.

This happens mostly in Opera, although it happened to me in IE last night also.  Doesn't happen on my NT machine in IE (obviously as I am posting this).

Any advice or suggestions.

I know Opera's cookie handling is miserable, but I never had a problem with IE before.

I had that pblm before also...
I logged in... and any click I point it to... I become guest....

anyway.... I put this site on to the trusted site list....
and it works.... (well... I'm not 100% sure.... I did try things here and there.... but this is 1 thing I did....)

tools/internet_options/security/trusted sites/sites
and type in...

http://www.arcadecontrols.org

and then try exit IE (or reboot...) and restart....

hope it helps....

No luck, I tried adding it to trusted sites.  I tried setting site provisions to accept all cookies.  Nothing works.  Odd thing is I don't have any problems on my NT machine.  The Win '98 box won't work on this board with either Opera, Netscape, or Internet Explorer.

BTW, I think it's something with my computer, rather than the board, b/c I also tried to buy something online and it wouldn't add anything to the shopping cart, but that works fine on the NT machine also.

Any help greatly appreciated.

2 more thoughts:

I tried changing my user name from Tiger-Heli to TigerHeli.

Also, on the NT machine I am always logged in and it is always on-line.  Could this be preventing me from posting on the Win98 machine, which is dialup???

FWIW, I dont' think the board cares about concurrent logins...

It just checks your cookie to find your uid/sessionid and from their it can relate the rest of the data from the database (i.e. which posts you read, number of posts, PM's waiting, etc)

I've been on the board concurrently with XP pro running mozilla 1.0 and windows 98 running mozilla 1.0 ... *shrug*

These type of problems are infuriating from an admin/coding perspective... I have a simliar issue on my site but it only seem to effect the admins (random log outs)... but that's not relevant here...

Ok, this is weird . . .

I changed my username to TigerHeli from Tiger-Heli on the NT machine.

When I tried to login as TigerHeli on the Win98 machine I got "Error: User TigerHeli does not exist"

When I tried to login as Tiger-Heli, I got "Welcome TigerHeli, you have 003 messages" and now it's letting me post.

Seems strange!!!

That previous post should have read "It's letting me post TODAY"

Now when I log in on the '98 machine, I have to log in as Tiger-Heli, the board says "welcome TigerHeli" and I become "Guest" again whenever I click on anything.

Go figure.
