Splicing an earphone wire..

How do you splice together an earphone cable.  I've tryed striping the end off, separating the two wires, and taping it together, but it didn't work.  What am I doing wrong?

If your trying to splice it down towards the plug you should see 3 wires not 2. If it is stereo headphones there should be a positive for the right, one for the left and a shared ground for both of them. If your splicing it up by the earphone then I don't know what your doing wrong. An easier way to do it is to go buy a cheap splitter from radio shack.
