Ok.. Let me clarify some things. Whether this is a scam or not.. Isn't really the issue. I work for Wachovia Bank. Here are a couple of things that can be done. A cashiers check is really no different than a money order. They can have stop payments placed on them. Just like any other check. The key is to verify the check with the issuing bank. This information is always printed on the check and can be easily verified. The only downside is we can only verify if the check is good and no stop payment is placed. This however doesn't stop the person from placing a stop payment later on. Essentially your chances after receiving the check and verifying that the  routing and account information  are valid and that there is no stop payment increase your overall security that this is no scam. I personally say to have him send the check. Once you receive it you can then verify the validity of the check and go from there.

Are you for real? Did you see that I received 4 IDENTICAL EMAILS from different people from different "countries" offering to buy it in this manner?

You have got to be screwed in your head if you think a good thing to do is give this guy my personal name and address. Sorry, I'd rather thieves and scams not have my personal information, thank you.

Screwed in the head is a relative term. Personally I take offense to the insinuation. All I was trying to do is provide clarification to how a cashier check works. Since there was a debate on how the process works. Besides there isn't a lot anyone can do with your name, address, and telephone number. Ever heard of a telephone book >:(

Tell them you are very interested and to mail the money order AND 30 bucks US cash as trust money. Give them the addy of yer post office and mae up a fake name.  Then call the post office and say someone accidently sent the mail to them with the name XXXXXXX accidently and that when it comes you wanna pick it up. Then keep the money and say you will be waiting for the remainder of the cash before you send the arcade game.

This is the kind of crap that makes people not want to help out.  He just gave you his opinion on this situation (as myself and others did) and you're jumping all over his case.  He wasn't the first in this thread to say that it might not be a scam.

As of this morning, I have received 4 identical scam emails for my Tron.

I dealt with the problem by sending trojan viruses in the "pictures" that they requested.

Yum.

Though I can certainly sympathize with your anger and understand the malicious intent you have toward them, I find your action taken very unsettling.

As if there isn't a big enough problem as it is with viruses & trojans raping machines all over the net, you deliberately sent some to email addresses, that were prolly stolen from some innocent & unsuspecting 3rd party.

I hate people that go about scamming people as these people are trying to do, but even more I hate people that spread uncontrolled malicious things, that could easily effect me.

Booo to you.

I have to agree that sending them trojans was not a good idea.  Aside from the spreading of malware, people have been killed that have been victims of 419 scams....  It's not a good idea to play with these people.

The proper thing to do is to report them on www.nipc.gov  That is the FBI's syber crime website,  now split into two sites  www.us-cert.gov  They have fraud report forms for you to fill out, they are not long and only take a second to fill out.  You capture the headers of the e-mail and paste them into the form as well.

That is the proper step to take.  After filling out the form, you delete the message and don't look back.

I don't care if you're a Navy Seal or an Army Ranger, playing with those scammers is a very very bad thing to do.  Many of them have ties with Organized crime of various countries.

Report them and forget them should be the thing to remember when getting a 419 scam e-mail, especially if you're selling something and they've sent you an e-mail about it.  Much more personal than a random Neigerian 419 spammed e-mail....

At the very least delete the e-mail and forget about it....

take heed of what I say, or don't, it's your choice,

      Mike B

I think most people here have a sense of humor just fine.  I like goofing around and being a smart ass as much as the next person.  The way it was written I don't think anyone will interpret it as a joke, though.

But since you say it was then let's just agree it is and end it at that.  I don't wanna see this thread get out of hand like some of the others around here. ;D
