spinner and trackball games
« on: August 25, 2006, 01:05:54 pm »
hey guys, i've had a trackball in my cabinet for a while, and i recently installed a spinner, the problem is, i havent really played many arcade games that use a trackball or a spinner..so my question is, what are some good trackball games, and what are some good spinner games.

for trackball, alli have now is:
Centipede
Millipede

for the spinner, i have:
arkanoid
ironman stewart's super off road

there have to be some other good games for these controls...any suggestions?

now some may question why i put these controls in my cabinet if i had no games in mind...well, the trackball was installed so i dont have to keep a mouse hooked up for windows usage...and the spinner was installed because i was bored and found a site with instructions on how to make your own spinner using an old hard drive and a mouse.  as much as i love my cabinet, i seem to get more enjoyment from building/modifying it than i do from actually playing games on it.

From the wiki:
http://wiki.arcadecontrols.com/wiki/Spinners

This link shows recommended games of different types:
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=17208.0

Also, GameEx now has a category showing spinner and trackball games.  You may want to check out that front end.

You'll also get hammered for not saying Missle Command and Tempest.     Two all time classics.

Tempest was the primary reason I installed a spinner.  A fun game I've found since then is Puzz Loop.

if you have an old hard drive lying and mouse around, you can make your own spinner for only a few $...and it works pretty well.

i used this guide when i made mine:

thanks for the suggestions guys...it just seemed like a waste to have these controls and nothign to play with them.

Don't forget you can play most driving games with the spinner if you don't have a real steering wheel, even games like HangOn and Outrun.  One spinner game I really like is Blasteroids - think modern upgraded Asteroids with spinner control.  And I saw a steering wheel spinner top for sale from one site, I forget which one.  Not fullsize, of course, but still a steering wheel.

Dreamwriter, I just tried Googling without any luck.  If you recall the site, let me know.  I'm really curious to see this.

that wheel is interesting...is it safe to assume it fit's a 1/4" shaft?

i am in the process of redoing my control panel layout, thanks for bringing this up, i will keep spacing in mind so i have room for something like this.
