How hard is it to say "hey boss, we need more information on the monitors if we're gonna make any money at all on them".

I personally never buy into the "I'm just the dumb employee" act.

EDIT:
I just received a reply to my questions to the seller. He's keeping up the dumb act though at least he admits they may be B&W.

Quote
I am sorry that my description confuses you. I am selling these for my boss who bought them for a specific project and never got around to. I do not have answers as to vector, etc. I have a whole closet full of these monitors and we just need to part with them. I have been told they are black and white. They are small. That is all I know. I will have to ask my boss the rest and he is unavailable right now. This auction is for 6 if you want. You can have them all if you want.

OK so the boss is never around to ask, yet he has a closet full of them. What's stopping him from grabbing a damn measuring tape and getting a SIZE for us? What's stopping him from checking for manufacturer information on the circuit boards or elsewhere?

I don't like sellers like this... But hey, if you get 6 black n white monitors for under $40 I guess you could build yourselves miniature Space Invaders machines...

mp2526, looks like you won.

I can't wait to see what these turn out to be.  Maybe there's still hope of the DFW BYOAC roadtrip!

BTW I've never seen tube screens in headrests, maybe center consoles though.

mini space invaders? I want one!

I thought the first rule of ebay auctions was that you talk a tremendous amount about the auctions.

The second rule of ebay auctions is that you talk a tremendous amount about the auctions.

Isn't that like the 5 or 6th rule?

I'll let you guys know what I find out.  I figure for $20 bucks I'll hook up my Atari 2600 and pretend I'm back in my room with the old Kmart B&W 13"  TV special.

Ok

I picked up the monitors this morning.  I believe the name of the company was photo telisys or something like that.  The closet they were in had a lot of old electrical test equipment and what not.  They seem to do some type of research with the goverment as the guest sign in sheet had some DOD informatation on it.  The lady that was selling the monitors was I believe an assistant for her boss who was actually the one who originally bought these monitiors and he was just too busy to deal with it.  She really didn't have much info on the monitors.  I may email her again and see if she can get her boss to take a few minutes to give me any info he may have.  She was really nice, but just didn't have anything to do with the purchase of these monitors.  She was willing to sell me the whole lot for $100, but I didn't have that much on me and I wasn't sure if I wanted that many monitors that I may not be able to do anything with.

Here is what I have gleened from the information printed on them and some quick research on the web.  I'll post photos and a plea for help soon in the Monitor/Video Forum.

They are made by Elston Electronics Corp which I believed was bought out by Display Technologies Inc.
They are 9" diag.
Possibly Monochrome (unconfirmed)
Model # DM30-098O-743-CO4
12 VDC
The tube was manufactured by Clinton Electronics and is Model # CE663W9K4 (I have emailed them for info)

They are new in box, but were manufactured in 1989.

Again, I'll post pics once I replace the battery in my camera.  If anyone has any info on this monitor I would appreciate it.

Mike

Looks like a 10 finger edge connector slides onto the main component board.

Sounds like something like the old greenscreens that were used in mainframe dummy terminals....

the company who made the tubes sell two 9" b&w crt.  Nothing else that small.

So it probably is..

Now the question is... those all took composite input.  These might make a very nice second monitor for controls or frontend type uses on a cab...

Or for the money you paid... The of how much fun they would be to throw off the top of a parking structure!  I bet they make a pretty cool sound!

The CE663 picture tube is 9" and is made in standard B&W, Amber, and Green phosphor. The monitor size and edge connector appear to be the same as the 9" monitors used in the English Mark Dart games. It uses a standard 10 pin card edge connector and the pinout is as follows (from the right to left):

1 Ground (common)
2 no connection
3 External brightness control (100k pot, if used)
4 External brightness control (wiper)
5 no connection
6 TTL horiz drive input
7 +12 volts @ 1 amp power input
8 composite video input
9 TTL vert drive input
10 Ground (common)

I'm sure these monitors can operate on either TTL or standard composite video, but I would try composite video from like say from a VCR or video camera first.

Quick question.  Would the pin out you posted be right to left if the copper fingers of the edge connector are facing towards me or facing away from me?  Thanks again for the info.

If those things are B&W or amber and actually used composite input I might actually still be interested in a couple! I'm curious to know what color they come out as and if the composite input works. Please keep us informed!

We could work something out, let me do a little work on these montitors to see if I can get them up and running and I'll let everyone who is interested what the scoop is.  If I find there is a large enough interest, I could always make a quick trip to SA and pick up the rest.  At least then any of you Dallas people wouldn't have to drive all the way to SA to get one.

If they turn out to have standard black & white picture tubes and take composite video you could get a 12 volt power supply and use them as security camera monitors.

If they have amber or green screens then they'd make great replacement monitors for dart games. That picture tube number is nearly identical to the one I need to repair a English Mark Dart monitor that somebody busted the neck.

no dice on the pinout you provided.  I started a new thread in the Monitor/Video forum to see if anyone can provide some pointers.  I also provided a link to some pics of the monitor.
