Can anyone tell me what brand of trackball I might have?
« on: May 25, 2004, 04:43:58 pm »
Hi everyone,

I just bought some games and 2 of them have a trackball in it. One is Birdie King 2, and the other is Capcom bowling.

I haven't picked up the games yet but  I am assuming they are original, as the games were sold as "project games"

1. Does anyone know what brand of trackball came with either machine.
or
2. Is there a way to tell from the trackball itself what brand it is.

Thanks in advance
Ed

I bought a capcom bowling cab that had a wico 3" trackball in it.  It was a conversion though so no guarantee.  As far as being able to tell without getting under the cp, I've heard that the happ brand trackballs roll the furthest and are generally quieter, while the wico and imperial are fairly noisy (I can attest to this) and don't roll as far.

Darktemp,

Thanks, one more question is there any markings or any other way to tell trackballs apart?

Thanks in advance

Will you be able to see the trackball housing?  I assumed you would just be able to see the ball, in which case not that I know of.

I am confused  ??? or maybe I wasn't clear with my question and I confused you...lol ;D

I DID "buy" theses game but I haven't actually brought them home yet to take them apart.

I don't know if I am missing something, but I am still new to the hobby

Here are a few more questions:

Why wouldn't I be able to see the housing

Aren't they just bolted on ?

Can I remove it from the housing/cab to look for markings?

Thanks

Happs trackballs look like this

Betson trackballs look like this

You most likely have one or the other.  They are pretty easy to tell each other apart once you can physically see them.

mp2526,

Thanks for the links.

I was just hoping there were markings on them , seeing as they are older games mid 80's

I think some game manufacturors just went with whatever was available.  At least I've noticed a few games that have had either a happs or betson.
