3Tronics Keyboard Encoder? Help Needed
« on: November 04, 2009, 03:36:52 pm »
Hey guys,

I'm really new to the whole mame scene, but I've encountered a serious problem now that I'm towards the end of my build.  I decided that instead of doing the keyboard hack I would order a keyboard encoder(Ipac like).  I decided on the 3tronics 24-input keyboard encoder.  Now i started by daisy chaining all the grounds, and I used a continuity tester to check to make sure all the grounds were wired.  Then i wired up player 1's side of the control panel and decided to test it before i went any further.  Much to my dismay now the buttons are unresponsive and the keyboard connected to the pass through is not working.  I tested before to make sure it worked by hooking the encoder up to the ps2 keyboard port taking a wire to pin 26(ground) and the 5 key on the encoder and pressed them together and it put a 5 on the computer so it was working.  Is there any reason why this is happening, or any thing i can do about it.  I can make a video or link to the products ebay page if needed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Make sure you are using the correct connector for the computer and the correct one for the keyboard.

I found the problem...
The when i hook the arcade controller up to the computer without a keyboard in the pass through it works like a charm.
But as soon as a put something in there it locks up and even after i take it out the thing still won't work.

Anyway to fix this?

well it's definitely not from the passthrough...
It's working really on and off.  Mostly off.
Is there some kind of bios setting or driver i need for this to work properly.
Whenever i push buttons all i hear is the sound you hear in xp when your typing on in a window

Have you tried contacting 3tronics about this?  I see that they show the BYOAC logo on some of their diagrams, so I assume they must be a member here.  Perhaps they would have an idea of what's going on.

They have good customer support.  He's letting me return it but he doesn't know why it's doing what it's doing.

Anyways I'm gonna get a keywiz with the refund.  Thanks for the help guys.
