One Player fighting game template

Since everyone seems to be talking about templates right now, what would be an ideal template for a one player fighting game controller with one stick and six buttons?  I like the Capcom template I have seen elsewhere on the board, but is there a better one that works well on fighting games?  Something that can encompass all six button or less fighting games? Or is it solely a matter of taste.  What do the pure-ists think? and the casual gamers?

Oh, and I intend to eventually make a matching pair, I just do not want to incorporate them on one piece of wood.

well I personaly like the 7 button layout

because it's easy going for neo - geo games and street fighter 6 button layout

I am going to do a separate four button controller for Neo-Geo, so that 7th button seems like a hassle to me.

Yeah, in the long run.  So I want a dedicated fighting game setup to play fighters only (and occaisionally other games).  I am going swappable because having all of the controls on one panel just seem awkward to me and I have limited space.  My third panel will have a spinner, some buttons, and a hacked flight stick and maybe a regular joystick for fun.  The Neo-Geo setup will also have a 4-way on the right side for Pac-Man, etc... or should it be on the left of my other stick? Hmmm... I will need to make a test rig and test it out.

If you have room on the panel, I actually found that angling the buttons (like a M$ natural keyboard) gave me the most comfortable fit (and higher scores).

Not arcade-authentic, but neither is the easy-chair I play from  .

Best idea is to get some cardboard and model various angles/button distances and use what feels best to you...after you pick one the cardboard is a ready made template.

I did this and it helped a lot.  In fact, I wish I had done more drafts (and may yet).  It's just a pain to unwire and rewire a lot.

I took the layout on TalkingOctopus's site and replicated it (by hand) in TurboCAD 4 (there is a free "learning" version kicking around the Net...I think I found the link to it on this site).  Then I added two more buttons (for a ps2 hack) and used the program to rotate the buttons around.  

I recall it being a pain to measure out on the wood, but I had better results doing that than using a drilling template.  (Obviously, my woodworking skills, if drilling holes is indeed a "skill",  need a lot more practice, whatever the case.)

I may be able to dig up the file if you're really interested.

Sure,  I will have to find the "learning" version of Turbo CAD 4, but that sounds great.

I got the Turbo CAD trial, but is there a CAD reader piece of software that just reads CAD files that is free?  TurboCAD has one, but they want $49.99 for it.

Okay, I'm back from whereever I went...

Just to be clear, I'm talking about TurboCAD Learning Edition; it's a full, working version of TC 4.0, when it was still all 2D.  I think the current version is like 9.0 or something.  I seem to recall getting it right from IMSI, and they had to email a key.  I can't find the link right now, but you can probably find it via google.

I've tried and failed to upload the fighter template I made, so pm me your email address and I'll send it to you.
