My First Arcade Cabinet

Sorry no catchy name yet.

I started this project after a friend put me onto MAME last August, and suggested we build cabinets.

I did a lot of researching into the cabinet design and ended up really liked 1UP

Looks nice and clean. Don't care much for NG or SFII type games?

Not really. I do have Metal Slug on there, but I like the older games.

I haven't been able to decide, and I have been putting deciding off since the beginning.

I think I would like to have something custom made. Weither I do it myself or not is up in the air. Need to add some bright colors, whatever I choose.  Would love to hear suggestions.

I am certainly no expert when it comes to monitors. I did try using a 27inch Sony TV using SVideo before I bought this monitor, but I was not happy with the quality of the TV signal.

I am very happy with it. All the old games look great, and with a 25inch even the vertical games look good to me. I will try and post more later if I can get some good pictures.

Here is a picture I took long before I actually started any construction. I only have a cheap $30 digital camera, but here it it anyways.

Hey, nice job, that is looking great! You mentioned that you might be building a zaxxon control panel... do you already have a zaxxon style control stick?

Yes i do. I fact it was one of the first things I purchased for my project. I purchased it from Zeitgeist, who is a member here. The purchase went really well, and he was great to deal with.  I have just recently ordered a Zaxxon overlay from ClassicOverlays.com and I hope to get it this week.

Updated Picture:

Installed MAME marquee

Designed custom overlay and installed 2 player Control Panel.

Installed gray tinted Acrylic over monitor.

Created custom built Zaxxon control panel. (Can be seed on floor)

I know it's nothing special, but I am happy with the way it turned out.

I like it, very clean.

Where did you buy tinted acrylic?  I can't seem to find it locally in NJ.

I am glad you like it.

I bought the sheet of Acrylic from http://www.mcmaster.com. I was able to get a 24" x 36" 1/4" thickness for about $35.00. Shipping was excellent. Cost about $8.00 and I had it in my hands in 2 days.

Now I just need to come up with some side art.

I'm not sure if it's a midwest only store, but I was able to find a big sheet of tinted plexi (I think 36"x48") for $30 at a menards in southern Minnesota.
