Spinner for dreamcast
« on: July 22, 2002, 09:52:14 am »
Hi,
is there any way where we can build a spinner for dreamcast ? Iam trying to use dreamcast for my mame machine. Also,
I am not able to get any page that illustrates how to build our own spinner controls. If some of you can provide me some links, I'll be thankful

TIA
-Vishwa

You can probably just look at any page that converts a standard mouse into a spinner (quite abuntant resources on that).  You could perform this operation on a dreamcast mouse.

My only questions is, why?  There aren't many DC games that take advantage of the mouse (epsecially along a single axis).  If you are thinking of building the spinner for Tempest (which is included in the Dreamcast Atari Classic collection) then you will find there is no mouse support :-( so it won't work.

Iam using mamed to emulate the old games. Also, Iam buying x-arcade for control panel.
So, games like Arknoid require some sorta spinners than the Joysticks to play the best. That is the reason why I wanted to see if I could somehow make a spinner for dreamcast.

If I hack the dreamcast mouse, should I connect it to 1player port for it work ?
or will it work on other ports than 1 and 2 ?

SOme of the links on the web to hack a mouse are dead. If you can mail me some links, I'll be grateful

Thanks
-Vishwa

dude...
do you have any idea how bad the dreamcast port of mame is???its less then nothing.and not many game suppports mouse.i dont know any game that does.anyways my thoughts.besides mame for dreamcast wont supports mouse ever.take my advice and get a pc with anything that works.you can likely get an 800mhz computer for like $250 from pricewatch.com

if you build your own then its even cheaper.

As much as I would hate to admit it, Snake has a point.   I'm assuming you already have Mame for DC up and running with a mouse?  If not, you should look into this first before diving into the project.

Even though there are a lot of dead links in the "Controls" section of this site (BYOAC) I did find a couple that worked under the spinner section.
