Updated my original cab!
« on: March 20, 2004, 10:02:58 pm »
Here are a few pics of the updates I made to my original Moon Patrol conversion.  I think this summer I'm going to restore the old side art as well.

I came up with the idea of Mame Patrol a few months back and much to my suprise, someone had already mocked up a Moon Patrol marquee.  I found this when I was searching for a high res Moon Patrol Marquee that I could modify. I'd like to thank who ever modified the marquee and saving me lots of work!

I also updated my control panel with competition sticks with ball top handles (the center stick is a genuine wico 4-way leaf).

Thanks!
Doug

There was a guy a while back who was making these replacements check out this thread:

http://www.arcadecontrols.org/yabbse/index.php?board=1;action=display;threadid=4483;start=msg30586#msg30586

I don't think he's making them anymore though... bummer...

I normally dislike classic cabs with an extended control panel, but your semi-circle CP is an exeption. Looks really nice. Good work on that!

As someone who is also converting a Moon Patrol, do you have schematics of your CPP

The semi-circle "bumpout" design is nothing new, I just wanted something that wasn't wider than the cab but could still house a trackball and dedicated 4-way.  With the new 4/8 way sticks that Ultimarc is selling, I may be able to rebuild a CP like the original cab and still have room for everything.  The "skirt" around the CP is just hardboard bent around a couple of 2x4's shown here:

On the moon patrol skirt I just covered it with the pebble grain control panel overlay everyone uses.  In the pic above I painted it high gloss black to match the rest of the cabinet I was building it for.

I just got my first cabinet and it's an old Q-bert cabinet.  It's small like yours.  I'm really admiring the curved looking CP.  It's so much better than throwing a big boxy CP on the front of a small cabinet.  I would love to see the schematics of the CP.

Also, how did you attach the CP so that you would have future access?

Holy bump Batman!

Here's the visio doc if you want:

www.doughansen.net/arcade/CP.vsd

The bumpout should be easy enough to figure out from the pics.  The CP is attached with panel clamps and the bottom is left open, that way if you have a light for your trackball it will illuminate the front of your cab also.  Might not be such a good idea if you have little ones who like to rip out wires.

Thanks for your interest!
