Ideas for Zombies ate my neighbors lightguns
« on: February 01, 2013, 12:03:46 am »
Hello, I'm currently building a zombies ate my neighbors cabinet and I wanted to make themed lightguns to go with it. I went with the Ultimarc light gun kit and have everything working with that. The page with the kit is below, didn't have a direct link but you can figure it out, it's the kit.
http://www.ultimarc.com/JShopServer/section.php?xSec=7

But I wanted to make 2 light guns that looked like the squirt guns from Zombies Ate My Neighbors.

So it's a pretty basic jumping off point, but I was wondering if anyone had any ideas of a product to kinda build off of or even a scratch build starting point? I'd like to have something with a decent weight to it and it's kinda hard to get a squirtgun like that. If possible, I've got no ideas in mind, I kinda wanna put an led in the gun and have colored water for each one.

Any ideas at all welcome. I feel like there are some cool possibilites, I'm just at a loss on where to start.

Do you have to have it transparent or opaque?

You could try checking out the Toys R Us and see what you can find there for guns you can gut out and wire an aim trak into.

Super-soakers? Nerf guns? Regular water guns might feel cheap and easily broken, but you might be able to find something higher quality.

Found this for $13, gonna try it out and see how it goes. Seems really close so long as I can clean up that stupid orange part. It'll work fine I'm sure but I still don't know if I can get a water system going. We'll see.

So my guns came in today and there is no apparent way to take them apart. I guess I was hoping for screw holes but that was pretty optimistic. Does anyone have an idea on how to get it open? I'm thinking maybe there's a tool fine enough to get in between the 2 pieces of plastic and cut the braces so I can get at the insides. Any suggestions would be terrific, of either a tool fine enough to do the job or a different idea altogether. Thanks in advance :)

Other than that little issue, they look and feel awesome. Heavy plastic, nice resistance on the trigger, big enough size. Good stuff.

dremel with a metal disc or cutoff tool? :dunno

If it isn't attached with screws it has to be held together with glue.  You could try a heat gun but what melts first, the glue or the plastic?  You could probably use bondo on them after the fact if it gets too rough getting them apart.

I'd rather not suggest a Nerf product (long standing grudge against hasbro) but the tornado strike maybe if only for the easy to disassemble construction and its resemblance to the machine pistol(?).

edit-Amazon pic was swapped with a goggle pic due to overwhelming size messing with the topic width.

Back in MY day we lived on the moon and we had to build a rocket ship from scratch to get to the Earth before we suffocated.

Hi, Were you able to make the model for the zamn lightguns? I'd like to know if, because I'd like to make ones too. Thanks.
