Weird Monitor sync issue - GroovyArcade and K7000a
« on: April 13, 2023, 02:36:10 pm »
Hi everyone!

It’s been a long time since I’ve posted here, but I’m back at it and having some issues.

I recently attempted hooking up an old PC to an empty Killer Instinct cabinet I bought, I used the latest groovyarcade image I could find, and I hooked up the PC to my monitor directly using a VGA breakout cable I made for a RaspberryPi project.

It works!

However I wanted to use the existing jamma harness, so I bought a J-PAC, always heard of them but never used one until today.

I hooked up the VGA from the PC, to the JPAC and now I cannot sync the image. I know the harness works as the cabinet came with Sharpshooter and it works fine.

I took off all the jumpers, and tried just the 15K jumper. Still nothing. I even did the pin 13-14 mod. I still cannot get a sync to this K7000a montior.

Everything works using the VGA breakout directly to the monitor from the PC, and the connector on the jamma harness is wired the same as my breakout cable.

Suggestions?

Just to discard the basic stuff, is the JPAC properly powered through the USB?
Important note: posts reporting GM issues without a log will be IGNORED.
Steps to create a log:
 - From command line, run: groovymame.exe -v romname >romname.txt
 - Attach resulting romname.txt file to your post, instead of pasting it.

Yea the board is getting power via USB. I messed around with it a bit and got a picture to kinda sync. But it has a nasty curve about 1/4 of the way down from the top.

Still looks perfect if I just use my VGA breakout cable directly from the VGA port.

I’ll post some pics when I can

Well now groovyarcade gets stuck here…I’ll fix that later.

But image 1 is with the J-PAC, can’t get it better than that.

Image 2 is perfect with the VGA breakout cable.
