Looking for new frontend recommendation
« on: January 21, 2023, 08:42:41 pm »
I've been using AdvanceMenuPlus in my cab for a very long time and I'm looking to try out something new, and
also trying to stay up to date as the program hasn't been updated since 2016.
I have a cabinet with a modular panel and a rotating monitor so there's a few unique things I need to have.

Hoping the hivemind can help me find one with some (for me) necessary options:

  • works horizontal or vertically and can be swapped between H/V based on key/button input
  • auto rotate mame/hbmame when launching based frontend orientation
  • runs and looks ok at low resolution (640x480), I have an arcade monitor
  • cycle between different emulators with key/button input, currently just 3
  • background audio
  • audio per game when hi-lighted
  • Assigning games to categories I can switch on.  I currently combine 2 different things into single category entries
The 2 categories I lump the games into is Orientation and Control scheme so I end up with entries like Vertical - 2 way joystick.
  • ability to remap frontend controls, including chording
  • can turn off the machine or launch a script with a button combo (I currently do that by having a separate "emulator" in AdvanceMenu with 1 entry which shuts things down)

free or $$ is fine

any ideas appreciated!

Hyperspin or RetroBat should both do what you need.  I'm getting into Attract Mode right now, so I'm not sure if it has all you need.
