Sorry for the necromancy.
Is it possible to play Initial D ver.3 head-to-head online using a VPN to mimic and fake a LAN connection?
My brother (as client) and I (as host) tried to set it up using Softether VPN. We managed to connect to each other. When we both launch Initial D ver.3 on Flycast with Naomi network, I get the pop-up notification that 1 player has connected. Then we see the Naomi screen, and then it shows "Checking Connection" on one screen, and a black screen on the other screen. It stays like this indefinitely.
We even tried entering Test menu and exiting it at the same time, we're still not able to get past the black screen.
So first, I turned ON my Sortether host. Then, on the same PC, I connected to my own host as client, I'm user1 and am given the IP 192.168.30.10. My brother connects to my Softether server, he's user2 with IP 192.168.30.11. After the connection has been successfully established,
Me as Host, on Flycast, I have checked "Act as Server", "Enable UPnP" and my local port is 37391
My brother as Client, he puts my IP 192.168.30.10 for server, and checked "Enable UPnP" with local port 37392
We both use the latest Flycast build, and we use the same ROMs and BIOS.
And then we launched Initial D ver.3 at the same time, and we get the situation described above.
Anybody have any thought? Any opinion? Any idea? Maybe we're just doing something wrong or we're missing something.
Or is there a different method to play Initial D ver.3 online? Please help us!
[EDIT] We did it, my brother figured it out. We had to set "Broadband Adapter Emulation" to ON and that finally allowed us to successfully playing Initial D ver.3 Online. However, there's a few framedrop here and there causing a slowdown. But it's no big deal, at least it works and it's playable!
