Weird Mouse/Trackball question
« on: August 11, 2021, 06:33:39 pm »
So, I really don't know what to do with this. I have Groovymame .202 on Windows 7 on an arcade with a 25 inch CRT.  I built it about 3 years ago. At the time, I was immersed and I knew what I was doing. I am less sure now since everything has worked great so I've just used it since and I've forgotten a lot about how I set things up. I'm sure I can get back into it but I'd like to see if I can just solve this quickly if possible.

My wife likes centipede and she plays it with the trackball, which is configured to be a mouse. In the INI the mouse is enabled and multimouse is not.

A little while back, all the sudden, anytime you use the trackball in-game it starts popping up text near the bottom of the screen, surrounded by a couple white bars, that toggles very quickly between "REC START (AVI)" and "REC STOP (AVI)". The trackball continues to work, although it appears to be a bit laggy. The games are hard to play with this text on the screen :-) . If I try to use the mouse instead of the trackball the behavior is identical. It works but the text pops up.

In my SNAP directory, little AVIs appear. This happens in any game, regardless of whether it uses the trackball or not.

Can anyone help? Is this some setting that somehow got kicked? Can I disable recording so this stops? I have read a lot of google and docs and forums and I'm just stumped.

Thanks,

Bob

That's some odd stuff.   :dizzy:

Press TAB to open the MAME menu system and go to the "Input (general)" ==> "User Interface" menu.

Scroll down and look at which keys are mapped to entries like "Record Movie" and "Save Snapshot".
- Looks like most of the possible culprits involve a combination that includes an "F12" keystroke.
- None of the entries in the "User Interface" menu should be mapped to a mouse axis.

Assuming that none of those entries like "Record Movie" and "Save Snapshot" are mapped to a mouse axis,  it looks like something (IPac? Keyboard?) is sending "F12" keystrokes.
