Question about R9 380X video card
« on: May 12, 2021, 01:42:15 pm »
I'm currently using a R9 380X for groovymame. Is there any benefit to using this card over a lower model?

I think no mate. A card that consumes less is preferable.

Yes, it will allow you to use a higher frame delay setting. The main component is the CPU, but the GPU is relevant to MAME, and thus to GroovyMAME as well.

Plus you get the ability to play other games at 15kHz. Tons of new games can scale down - Tekken 7 for example. Not to mention Teknoparrot.

The 380x isn't likely to work with Atom15 however, so you have to account for that too.

With HD6450 i didn't have problems with frame delay settings at 15khz (maybe for LCD and vsync offset).

@tonyt76 said for GroovyMAME...for other emulators is another history (Dolphin, PCSX2, Cemu, ...)

Im using a 380x. Its overkill for most mame games, but is useful for other emulation like cemu, dolphin, pcsx2.  Let me know if you want to sell it, im building another emulation pc and would like another.

The r9 380x is the last most powerful emudriver compatible card made that supports analogue out over the dvi-i port.

It will play literally anything you throw at it. Groovymame 100% everything once you have a good cpu. But also any 2021 teknoparrot and demul.

They used to be 40-50 on ebay but they go for a lot more now. I have one in all my cabs. Odd thing is there is no atom15 compatible bios for some reason no matter what company makes the card.
