Mapping keys - California Speed Mame

I'm having issues mapping my wheel and pedals on California Speed and San Francisco Rush 2049. Every time I attempt to map a key in mame, it maps to either the left control button or right on the key pad. I have no issues with any of my other games except these two. Any ideas on where I can look next?
