So I would take that as admission that this cabinet controls/game selection/controls/screen orientation is a mistake.
It's a shame too, because the cabinet itself is a nice design. In my mind, this is a bigger mistake than the Asteroids spinner. At least the asteroids cabinet could faithfully play Asteroids. This cabinet makes compromises all the way around. Either the screen is squished, or the controls aren't correct - nothing is faithfully reproduced. This cabinet needs to be modded, just so it can play games well.
the basic problem has been that there is no one at arcade 1up, that actually knows anything about arcade games.
they don't know the titles, and they don't know how to play them.
they don't know what the proper controls are, and they don't know how they are actually supposed to be played.
the thing is, that 99% of people don't care, and aren't actually any good at these games.
so they can keep trying to get away with putting out things, that are collectors items, instead of machines,
that are used for playing.
there is still a vast majority of people that play these games that aren't any good, and wouldn't know a 4 way joystick
vs 8 way, even if you hit them over the head with it.
i can't get to the slow boards on burgertime, but some people can. i'm sure i would complain if i was an expert.
but can you really tell me that people will complain if that isn't in the game either.
they don't care. this is a slight admission because a few youtube influencers can't play the game properly.
i used to report tons of bugs in the atari games early on, and the vast majority of them have never been
fixed. (to be fair, some were originally like that in the arcade versions, but fixed in emulators released on consoles).
