Do you have pictures? I might buy some of your others if you clean them up when I am a little further in my project.

Damn Peale I just sent 28 dollars for a 2 1/2" from Ultimarc, gah.  A week earlier and I would have bought one.

What's the story on the ultimarc track balls? Decent quality?  I've heard they have plastic rollers.

I have not gotten it yet Dhanson, I will let you know when I get it.

I hope the quality is good, I have not seen many people disparaging it.  But I may have missed that message.

Pardon my ignorance, but what kind of connectors do these trackballs have?  USB?  PS/2?  Something else entirely?

Six pin molex connector.  You'll either need a mouse hack or a Opti-Pac.

yep, they have plastic rollers. Except the bearring holding the ball, but this wasn't much better, as mine got rusty after three months.  :o  I've no Happ 2 1/4" to compare, but at least the Happ 3" used in Golden tea is much more better.

Next time I need a small trackball, I'll try a Happ or maybe Betson one.

They're all white.  They were pulls from Golden Tee machines.

If you want other colors, you could order one from Bob Roberts.  It will still work out cheaper than buying a brand new one from Happs.

Just an Idea.

I'd have to wait until Friday (payday) to send you Paypal or whatever, but I'd still like one if you're willing to wait a few days....:)

Hey, I've got an optipac and I've been working on my mk II mame cab. Would I need anything else to get this trackball working?

I understand you said its a 6 pin molex connector but I see no connector on the opti-pac.

Also are these easy to mount?

thanks

I've never hooked an Opti-Pac to a trackball (not having one) but there should be instructions somewhere detailing the process and any extra parts you may need.

I would say if you have the proper mounting hardware, no.

Got mine yesterday. For all of you guys who may have concerns about these trackballs, let me tell you that you have nothing to worry about. Either these were very rarely used or Peale did a bang up job of cleaning them. Mine is spotless inside and out, the ball is bright white, and the bearings seem to have been recently oiled. The bearings and rollers are all metal and very heavy.

I was able to hack this to a mouse in about 30 minutes, no problem. The red wires go to 5 volt +, black to 5 volt -, the other four wires go to left, right, up down on the reciever points on the mouse board. I had to swap the wires around a couple times to get the directions right, since I was just guessing as to what was what on the mouse. Very simple to hook one up. If there's interest I'll post which color is which direction.

I did a little "bench testing" with Centepede after I got the directions right! Can't wait to get a panel built for this thing!

Thanks Peale!

If you're considering a 3" trackball, I'd recommend getting one of these.  You can't beat the price, and Peale was great to deal with.

Think one of these 3" trackballs would look stupid in a midway cocktail control panel?  They're pretty big.
I wouldn't be playing golden tee with it, but I could see myself playing centipede.  How big is the mounting hardware?  I've only got 5"x9.5"x3" to work with (HxWxD)

thanks,
-jeff!

Word of warning for people doing the mouse hack on this trackball.
I got one from the good sir here. (Thanks, works great)
The trouble I had was trying to use newer Microsoft Intellimouse oem mice for the hack.
All that would happen is a little twitch of the pointer.
Tried 2 mice.. Both did the same things. Finally broke down tonight and ran down to Walmart and bought the cheapest ps2 mouse for 6.99.
5 mins after I got it home the trackball is working great..
So remember kids... More expensive doesn't mean better.

Later,
dabone

I bet I know why, as I had the same problem.  You didn't get the ground correct.  If you haven't tossed it yet, try it again, this time connect your ground either to your power supply, or directly to the ground pin hooked to the PCB.  Once I figured that out, it worked great.  This was on a Memorex 3 button mouse.

Of course, I'm sure every mouse has its quirks (Kelsey has said there are mice he could not get to work) and this may be the case still.

I don't know if this helps you or not, but here's a (not very good) picture of mine mounted in my Midway CP: http://pages.prodigy.net/stingrayg4/misc/arcade/tbspin1.jpg

The panel is six inches from the back to the point where it bends downward. This trackball fit with less than 1/2 inch to spare front and rear.

EDIT: I  just realised you said Midway cocktail. Oops.  :-[ I'd agree with Peale, probably won't fit.

Does anyone know if the HAPP surface mounting plate (the one with no bolts/screws showing) will work with the Betson Imperial Trackbal.
