Digital output soundcards?
« on: February 09, 2004, 09:02:59 am »
I'm looking for a decent soundcard(up to $120) that has digital outputs. I want to hook this up to my receiver can this be done with a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS sound card? Do I need a special coaxial cable? Thanks.

The SB live! can bad had for under $50 and has good digital output. The Turtle Beach Santa Cruz is another low cost alternative. The nice thing is that digital output is easy so you don't have to go with a high end card. It's the analog output that sets appart the cards (especiall in signal-tonoise ratio).

I bought the SOUND BLASTER AUDIGY 2 ZS PLTM PRO it has 2 optical in/outs so I can power it to my older receiver for use in the MAME/Jukebox cab. So now my MAME machine(in terms of sound) consists off:

SOUND BLASTER AUDIGY 2 ZS PLTM PRO
2 5 1/2 Blaupunkt TSx542 4ohm speakers
Onkyo 575 receiver(6 ohms)(about 90 watts a channel)
300 watt plate amp(for sub)
15 inch subwoofer (Tempest)
3.0^3 sealed box

Music is fantastic
