Sound distorted on my 1967 Rock- ola 434.

I recently bought a 1967 Rock-Ola 434 Jukebox , when I bought it sound was great, after transporting it on the back of my truck for an hour got it home and sound was distorted and muffled and low. I have no repair man within a 150 miles . The guy I bought it from said that it was more than likely that the jiggling on way home created a bad connection with the wire going to stylus. I rubbed across needle lightly and it was better so you can at least hear it but still distorted . fades out a bit more after a minute playing . Any help , it did sound good before transporting, but sounds like something simple and stupid but being not familiar with this a little scared to fool with. Thanks
